Subject: Classroom Photos and LOTE stories

Hello everyone!

Welcome back to the 2008 school year. I meant to write to you all much
sooner than this, but as every term does, this one started off crazily
and it's taken me a while to get organised. If any of you can tell me
where the last three weeks have gone that would be great!

If you haven't visited the technoLOTE site lately, check it out when
you've got a moment. I did a lot of work on it on the holidays and it's
much more organised and looks very different. Some of the posts I've
written recently that you might be interested in are:

They've Got 'em, Let's Use 'em <http://www.technolote.com/?p=150> - I
gave my students an ICT survey to see who had mobile phones and mp3
players and what functions they had - most kids own their own voice
recorders. Fabulous for the LOTE classroom! Feel free to download the
survey if you like.

iPod mLearn oCool! <http://www.technolote.com/?p=128> - mLearning is
just 'mobile learning' and this post will tell you a bit more about it
and where to find some resources. The follow up post is: iGo uGo we Go
moGo! Mogopop you iPod and 5 other mLearning ideas
<http://www.technolote.com/?p=130>.

I want to have two regular sections on technoLOTE if I can. One is
photos of LOTE classrooms - I've started it with a post about my
classroom <http://www.technolote.com/?p=152>. I'd love it if you would
send in some photos of your classroom with a short description so that I
can have a series on what all sorts of different classroom setups are. 3
or 4 photos of a room is plenty.

Also,  every Monday I want to have a 'Mad Monday - Stories from a LOTE
classroom' post. The idea is that each week a funny/inspiring story from
a LOTE classroom somewhere around the world will be shared. So, this is
a call for stories from your classroom! They only need to be a couple of
paragraphs long and could be something funny a student said about
learning LOTE, something funny that you did (whether accidentally or
intentionally) a strange question that was asked and the answer that you
gave etc.

I'm also going to start the Weekly Website Watch emails again and on
technoLOTE there will also be a 'Weekly Whiteboard Workout' where I will
write a post about something I"ve done with the SMART Board that week.
Hopefully I'll get contributions from others for this series as well.

So, please take some photos of your classroom (or the one you are in
most often) and send them along with a small description. Also, think of
a short story from your classroom and send that along too.  I'm really
looking forward to receiving them. (Send those things directly to me,
not to the whole group).

Last but not least, have a think about one ICT thing you want to try in
your LOTE classrooms this year. I'll be asking you what these are in the
next week or so. Then I'll see what I can do to help!

I hope you've all had a great start to the year.

Jess
