Subject: {technoLOTE} Tsunami

One of my year 12 students have expressed an interest in looking at the tsunami in Banda Aceh as a detailed study topic, the event, warning, the results, what the indoensian governements response was then and now.  How the people of Banda Aceh can move forward now. do they still need assistance etc.....
But i don't have any resources off hand - does anyone have any that i could copy?  OR could offer me some direction in where i can find some?

Also Jess i am loving wordle at the momment and recommending it to lots of staff members :)

Many thanks

Would love to & would be able to but am teaching full-time Italian @ Horsham College! I did  one of my practice teaching rounds at Randwich Girls!!!  (1981!) Did Dip Ed @ UNSW!  (LIved at Clovelly!)I remember the the first thing the librarian said to me when I walked into the library was " Oh ! What do you want?" And at the time there was a great divide between the Greek girls there and the Turkish ones. I sure do miss NSW!!!!

Dear colleagues,

I am giving an online seminar tomorrow night as part of a series of seminars on languages education. My topic is "Primary school
languages - our primary failing". The initiative come from Phil Mahnken of the University of the Sunshine Coast.

This is a chance to tune into some lively discussion from the comfort of your own computer

Test and familiarise yourself with the Adobe Connect system any time  at http://callisto.usc.edu.au/languages
This kind of software itself is worth knowing about for internationalising languages teaching.

Hope to see you online tomorrow night...

P.S. Please send to your networks

Dear Matthew!
What time? We have LAHeads & Curriculum meetings after school & they go until around 5pm. Then as I only stay here thru the week & live a long way way from here, I don't have access to the internet where I stay.(No landline.  Just mobile) If it were before 7pm I could watch it here at school but after that we have no access to the buildings.
Perhaps you could have a transcript of the seminar? My colleagues and I would be most interested as we feel that our subjects get very little support from the school, especially for those  students who choose to go on to higher levels of LOTE. And it seems to be case in many other schools as well.
Since Kevin is so keen to support languages in schools it would be good if there were some really tangible support from above!
