these folks: http://www.maritimeheritagemn.org/ are one of the people who talk about doing a scanner build, and they're in saint paul.

I'd check them out.

Let me know if you have any luck, as this is a top that's of interest to me.

There is a guy in fargo that does this too, I think he one an instructables for his effort on the project.
