I know that SimpleText (1.0.1) has been "discontinued" but I'm still
using it as I'm not please with the Dropbox option, which isn't
workable for 2 collaborators on the same Task. I'm checking the forum
regularly and it seems to be around for sometime without a convincing
solution.
Recently, I've experienced some messages about syncing problems, even
on my own (without my colleague using the same task at the same time)
and I suspect these have to do with the versioning of documents by
Lion (10.7.3). Have you experienced such problems, are the developers
aware of that?
Btw, I can't find a way to turn off versioning in Lion?!?
Again, I'm concerned about the future of my tasks and teamwork, what's
the solution? Install Simpletext on our server running 10.6.x? Wait
and hope for a really sync via Dropbox?
Sorry for the late response. I just got a message back from Jesse on this since I forwarded it to him to see if he had any ideas.
Not sure about the Versions issue (sorry again, not sure if somehow excluding the save directory from Time Machine would remove it from tracking versions), but if syncing with the iOS app isn't part of the equation then you're not locked into any particular sync system -- The iOS version uses Dropbox, but the desktop version really doesn't care except for where the files are located. One suggestion might be GIT or a similar (true) delta-based distributed version control system, for example.

Thanks for your reply.
Versioning, I think we tried to deactivate from Time Machine but if
I'm right, it didn't do the trick.
Regarding the sync, I'll check with a programmer friend who's using
GIT, thanks for the tip.
Best,
Mathieu

So, I've given GIT a try and it's indeed a reliable solution in terms of handling merging changes. I can imagine it'll be even more reliable than Simpletext but on a daily use basis, GIT needs more attention (commit, push, pull…). We're only designers, looking for a simple solution to unable us to collaborate on projects, using the great Taskpaper. We're dealing with todo lists, not with pieces of codes with many people working on it at the same time.
My question is, are there other solutions, closer to Simpletext and as easy to us to help us collaborate. As said before, for us Dropbox is a step back and can't be used for a collaboration.
Thanks in advance for your tips, with my best regards,
What about your programmer friend setting up a few AppleScripts, which could take away the load of committing / pushing / pulling etc., but could be called from within TaskPaper? Then you would have the best of both worlds. Just thinking aloud here.

Thank you for your comment and idea. Unfortunately, even your solution seems too complicated for a smooth collaboration. In my opinion, if you share a todo list, you simply want and should focus on the tasks, not on the process of syncing and merging. I think we'll give a try to moving the service to our own server in the meantime. Hopefully Dropbox will support merging in the future or another solution will pop up…
