I've released the next update on the beta page for testing:

http://tasker.dinglisch.net/beta.html

Although it's just a bugfix version, some of the bugfixes were to
fundamental frameworks so I think a few days of testing before release
is a good idea...

Especially cool if the people having trouble with variable listings
and memory loss could give it a go.

Thanks,

Pent

Bugfixes

app creation: missing permissions for events Received Text, SMS
Success/Failure in some cases
app creation: root task/project with name containing e.g. & was
failing
app creation: version name containing e.g. & in was failing
variables tab: only show project indices in proj where base proj
referenced, if possible
variables tab: update when moving profiles, tasks, scenes between
projects and other common data changes
variables tab: update when switching to it, in case we missed
something
variables tab: with Empty deselected, was showing variables which
had a stored value which was empty string
source of crashes after leaving some UI screens for an extended
period then returning
was needlessly reinitializing some static data every time on
starting several components
state edit: Wifi Near/Connected: scan dialog had wrong title
action Notify: using an Ipack then later a non-Ipack, or vice
versa, resulted in 2 separate notifications
scene edit: light theme with dark scene background, control
buttons weren't visible
root detection: accept pkg com.lbe.security.miui with SU
HTTP Get: Content Type: is only used as a hint to Tasker as what
type is coming back, no longer sets Content-type header
builtin icon select: approx 20th icon was a blank space and
shouldn't have been selectable
scene element webview: source type File: selector icon wasn't
showing file selector
app creation: swiping kid away from recent lists was crashing
under most conditions on 4.2+
catch OOM on icon select screen (builtin icons)
some steps to prevent data leaks in some screens
action CPU: incorrect validation of variable name for Governor
param
monitor notification: on Android 4.2+, with transparent icon
selected, use normal date (not in status bar anyway)

Changes

enable/disable menu entry: visible and always flashes tip, until
user uses icon for toggle first time

First thing to happen after I installed it ws

12.39
null
net.dinglisch.android.taskerm.Main.onPrepareOptionsMenu(Unknown Source)
android.app.Activity.onPreparePanel(Activity.java)
com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow.preparePanel(PhoneWindow.java)
com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow.invalidatePanelMenu(PhoneWindow.java)
com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow$1.run(PhoneWindow.java)
android.os.Handler.handleCallback(Handler.java)

But seems to be working now, so might have just been a hiccup

Hi Pent,

I noticed the items in the "Zoom Action Category" (still) not fit on the tiles, I saw this was a little better in the beta

Is the toast first in the action ? If not, please try it as first.

What type of icon ? If builtin, which one ?

Yes, the toast is first action in the task, originally i used 'app icon' and selected the installed version of the app as icon source, now when i checked, i realized that this isn't possible anymore, so i selected built in icon (white headphone) but the profile still not works. I would send you the project, but you would need a galaxy s3 and siyah kernel to use it...

still experiencing crashes with u2 :(
will send you a log later today..
if needed I'll try to get more log tomorrow..

the theme change you made in the Scene editor is a very welcome one, I can now see my buttons again :)
It's ok now when opening a Scene but it's still the old (dark) way when clicking an element for resize or move, could you also change this as it is when first opening a Scene?

I'm using u2 and it's working generally well bar the fact that when I open Firefox it restarts itself.

I've also got an issue whereby I went to change the CPU governor earlier via Tasker and it appeared to work fine (I didn't actually select anything). However since when it's saying that CPU is unsupported on my device.

I created a project with a headset context that just flashes a toast,
works fine on stock N7 both with Tasker and in kid app.

Are you opening the app at least once before inserting the headset ?

Just CPU ? No other root functions (e.g. Input / Dpad) ?

Tasker restarts itself.

Also ah you're right. It appears it's the Root actions. How do I get Tasker to re-request root privileges?

Do you have an app context for firefox (or any app context ?)

It didn't happen before the update I presume ?

By 'restarts itself', you mean the monitor icon disappears and then
reappears ?

Is there anything in /sdcard/Tasker/crash.txt from around the same
time?

It's stopped working since the update ? Could you try just rebooting

I think it's happened since 4.0, it's just become more obvious of late. My apologies for misrepresenting the bug as though it's something freshly introduced with u2.

By restarts, the monitor (status bar icon) disappears, reappears and then it says "XX Profiles Active"

No profiles with Firefox (Nightly) as a context. I should also state that it's not every time, but around just over half of the time.

/sdcard/Tasker/crash.txt doesn't exist

Rebooting never fixed the problem, however updating my phone did. I assume it was a cache issue. Needless to say, I've granted permanent superuser access.

Hmm, that's strange, yes i opened the app multiple times already, i even rebooted the device. I think i gonna delete that profile and build from scratch. Probably there is something left because of that icon stuff. Btw, please reenable us to use app icons or custom icons in notifications, it would be way cooler to have this because the user canniest easily know what app the notification belongs to...

FadeFx

What i was talking about is that i built a notification which displayed an icon taken from the app i produced containing that notification... probably a bit complicated to explain but pretty draught forward when you have done it once. I was not able to select a custom icon for notification, only app icon, so i had to export the app once and then use it as icon source for the notification. This was definitely possible in pre 4.0 version of tasker.

I had been having problems with my variables when I came across this thread. Previously, my %HTTPD was not showing up. I installed the latest beta and now it is showing up but not in the project. The task that is pulling the http get data is my Sun Data Project. The variable is ending up in my Profiles Project which is my first project (all the way to the left). Hope this helps.

I noticed that when trying to assign a  task to a specific profile, and the scroll window pops up, sometimes when trying to scroll slowly with finger the task list hops around.  I find I have to try to "guess fling" the scroll list to the right spot.

Or, I can go into Tasks and open the task I want then flip back to the profiles window and then when the task selection window pops up then its pointing at the desired task.

As well, sometimes when naming a profile or a task, the text entyr window gets chopped in half horizontally so the top of the text you are entering isn't visible.

If this has been reported, I apologize.  Other than that I find this release pretty sweet !

I'm using Tasker to play a music when my Alarm launches. Therefore I have a scene on which the taks should interrupt the music play. Since I have had no other clue how to do it, I loop until a variable (AlarmStopp) is set. Additionally I have added a FadeIn for the volume to increase, which should run in the background. The FadeIn is launched before the music starts playing, which would lead to a blocking task, if not executed multithreaded.

My task was designed several months ago and it works more or less all the time. Unfortunately, out of the blue, the task doesn't stop any longer since last weekend. I manually upgraded to the 4.0u2m today, but the problem still persists.

Additionally I wanted to check the RunLogs. They are empty and I have no clue where to enable them properly. I wanted to check, where it hangs, but since I couldn't find anything, I left it. My current guess is that the MusicPlay-action is not contiued, cause I can change manually the variable AlarmStopp to 1, but the task continues to be executed. Therefore I guess, there is some problem with the MusicPlay.

Any hints how

1) To interrupt the MusicPlay properly?
2) To reenable the RunLogs?

I included my current Task as well as the Debug-Logs for the user-interaction: Start Tasker, select the task Alarm, launch it, press stopp on the Scene, change the variable AlarmStopp in Tasker, change to the Task, stop it in the Task.

Btw, it's leaving Tasker that always creates the crash. I hit the back button, and I can immediately tell if it's going to crash by how responsive it is. This is a major issue since it then crashes away tons of changes :/
These last few crashes haven't been scene editing related. For this last one, I was editing 3 tasks and a profile, back and forth, wanted to go out to save before I packaged it into a project for export, and boom it crashed.

Hi there,

I'm pretty new to Tasker, so I hope this isn't just a simple a user error. Have looked for similar topics but haven't seen any.

I experience this in both the released 4.0u1 (Google play) and the 4.0u2 beta. The phone is a Galaxy Nexus with stock Android 4.2.2. Happens during Tasker managed tasks and in apps exported with App Factory.

The problem: When I use "Variable Query" to get user input, the input window sometimes just flash one time on the screen as a black square for a very short time and then disappear. When this happens it will skip to the next action in the task list. Sometimes the black square will stay on screen instead of a quick flash. See attached screenshot.

I can't seem to find a pattern in this problem. I set up a test task containing 10 numbered "Variable Query" to see what would happen. Sometimes it skipped a few actions (I saw both the flashing square and the staying square), sometimes it went through the list flawlessly.

I hope my description of the problem isn't too fuzzy to understand... Is this a known problem, or maybe a simple user error after all?

The same occurs if you just let the task end (and always did) so I
think that's consistent.

Use Stop Music to counter Play Music, for Play Ringtone there's no way
to stop
(they used to just all stop by themselves... need to do something
about that...)
