Plugins failing with timeout

I have had multiple plugins start to fail today. They have been working for years. Tasker was updated this morning. Contacts Task was the first one I noticed. I switched it with AutoContacts and it failed as well. Then I noticed that AutoWear was also failing. Both of the contacts plugins can browse my contacts without issue. All permissions are applied. Because this began today, I am inclined to think the Tasker update from this morning broke them. Here is one of the error messages:

Increasing the timeout only made it take longer for the error to appear.

FYI, the last several updates of Tasker have announced in the "What's New" field "things may break" and "major update" and "please report things"

So, you're seeing that, I guess. Since those "plugins" have been working for years, maybe they are out of date, or something in your Android version is out of date.

However, as mentioned above, the possibility of things breaking was anticipated by the developer, so if you are patient, you might see fixes soon.

I suspect it's one of the top orders of business, indeed.

Oh, I am aware. And everything is up to date. And it's a weekend, so I don't expect a response until Monday, at least. Betas always break things. No surprises there. The surprise is when they seem to work without breaking things. 🙂

Not a great day for Tasker here, but I'm glad to have found this thread.

Today, all calls to my Home Assistant Plug-In for Tasker are timing out as well.

Using the plug-in to render a template just times out and fails.

Using the plug-in to set an entity state also times out, but it did change the state in HA as expected!

✔Everting is fully up-to-date.

✔Works on a TabA7: Android 12  Tasker 5.2.1-beta

✘Fails on my Pixel4a: Android 13 - Tasker 5.2.1-beta

(Also found [on A13] I can no longer add an AutoVoice Recognize widget to the launcher screen. Had to make a Tasker Task and add a shortcut to it, to the home screen. Google is turning Android into a cancer on Tasker!)

Kind of glad to hear this as some of my plugs are failing also like home assistant and calendar task,

Hope the issue causing this gets fixed, as I thought I did something wrong to cause this

FWIW: Also found this topic playing out on reddit.

I'm slowing re-implementing my required functions natively in order to bypass the need for the plugin; it's really crippling me.

I'm wondering if reverting to an earlier beta would help...

Initial testing, that appears to have corrected it. I didn't see any timeouts when manually playing a task that includes a plugin. Thank you.

Well the latest playstore update (6.2.2 beta) seems to have brought this issue back (unable to toggle Bluetooth). Also, now when I try to install the version Joao posted above, I now get an alert that the package is invalid.

Hi there.

Unfortunately Google is not allowing Tasker on Google Play to directly toggle Bluetooth files anymore. There's nothing I can do about that.

However, can you please install this app on your phone and then try the "Bluetooth" action again from Tasker? That will make toggling Bluetooth be done with Tasker Settings instead of Tasker directly.

Make sure to disable the "Tasker Settings" app (not only Tasker itself) from battery optimization (https://tasker.joaoapps.com/userguide/en/faqs/faq-problem.html#00) so that Tasker can call it in the background.

Is AutoShare maybe being battery optimized on your device?

To make sure Tasker and the AutoApps run in the foreground please check here: https://tasker.joaoapps.com/userguide/en/faqs/faq-problem.html#00

Pay special attention to the location part. If Tasker doesn't have permission to get location in the background it might not work correctly, so disable and re-enable the location permission and make sure that you allow Tasker to always access it.
