Does 'Wifi Near' work when Airplane Mode is on?

Hi there,

I have a profile 'Home' which has most things turned on, which is
active using 'Wifi Near'.

I also have a profile 'Sleep', active during midnight to 5am, which is
also active using 'Wifi Near'. Now airplane mode switches on, but then
after a little while no profiles are active. It's like it isn't
scanning wifi during airplane mode (despite selecting 'toggle' wifi if
off).

Is this by design?

Using Nexus One on 2.2

Cheers, Hamish

I changed it recently to not toggle wifi when airplane mode is on
(someone complained,
and it seemed reasonable).

Next version, you can toggle the cell radio independently, so
hopefully that is
a solution for you instead of using airplane mode ?

I think I'm going to revert to how it was before (works during
airplane mode) and people
can add an inverted airplane mode state if they wish.

No wifi scanning in airplane mode is good as it is.

Sorry, I disagree.

Some people want to scan in airplane mode.

I'm not going to put an extra preference in when the people that don't
want it
can stop it with the Airplane Mode state.

Is it correct, that the wifi scanning stop, if airplan is on? So, the
profile which is activated by a "near by wifi" state, is not activ in
a airplan mode. If you change it back, is it possible to disable the
wifi scanning in the airplane mode? A airplane mode with wifi scanning
is not an airplane mode.

Sorry for my bad english, it is not my native language.

How can i stop scanning in airplane mode? "Wifi near" is a state and
haven't the possibility for "scan only if airplane is not true", or?

Sorry, i don't understand it. :-/ :)

Your profile will look like:

State: Wifi Near
State: Airplane Mode [inverted]

If the airplane mode state isn't active, Wifi Near won't try to
monitor at all.

Apparently Google disagree, since they added the possibility of
enabling
wifi while in airplane mode.

I understand what you mean though. I'm just looking for a way that
everyone
can be happy while avoiding adding yet another preference.

Apparently the airline industry agrees with Google, otherwise how
would in-flight WiFi work? :)

Sorry for resuming such an old thread, but I disagree with that statement. There are airplanes which do have a GSM micro cell (which signal will go over satellite), but they are designed for this. The same applies for in-flight WiFi  I think. If you enable WiFi on airplane mode you are supposed to understand what you are doing, actually you could not apply the airplane mode at all.
I would prefer to have another option in the WiFi near condition allowing me to disable the toggle, but this is just a customer opinion :)

Like I said earlier in the thread, you just need to add an inverted
airplane mode context.

Will a "Home" cells near do the same? I do not want to split the task as it seems there is a max of 2 contexts conditions. If I switch on the phone with airplane mode on I guess the "Home" cells condition will not match and will prevent the WiFi scan to run?

Should do, yes.
