Enable ringer on incoming call (from silent), impossible?

Hi,

First of all, let me say I think Tasker is a remarkable app; I'm a
programmer myself, and all the different ways this app allows me to
script and automate my phone is really cool.

However, I used Locale before I bought Tasker; and it enabled me to
have a silent night-profile, with exceptions for important callers
that would result in the ringer being enabled when they called during
the night. I can't get this to work with Tasker.

I've read somewhere this is because some (?) phones won't actually
make any noise when you enable the ringer *during* an incoming call.
And the only way around it by using Tasker would be to play a music-
file instead. Is this correct? There is no other way to make this
work?

Thanks for any insight into this matter!

That seems to be the case. It works fine on my N1 (2.2.1).

You can try a default-accept policy and do Silence Ringer when you get
one you don't like, however you usually get a ring out before Silence
Ringer cuts off the ringer.

I think the underlying issue is timing for both of these. I use
different services for monitoring and executing tasks, and the time to
start up the execute service is causing the problem I believe.

So it will likely be fixed in the future, which doesn't help you now,
I know.

I thought I used to have this working with Locale on my Galaxy S; but
it turns out this only worked on my previous phone: a G1.

So I guess I'll just use the workaround where a music-file starts
playing when a VIP calls me during the night.

Thanks for your quick response!
