After struggling with the subscription I feared that one can only use
Google Groups in web mode but seemingly e-mail mode works.

Hi!

Yes, the email mode works.
The day before yesterday, I was trying to configure this group
and the mailing list in sourceforge, so that the posts to one of
them can also be posted to the other automatically, but I failed
:-(. Now it seems possible that SF mailing list can post messages
it receives to this group in Google, but the vice-verse doesn't
seem to be possible.

I found out that problem with SourceForge mailing list only
exists for my gmail.com account!

Do you send your messages via the official MX (when in doubt query DNS
for gmail.com's MX record).

If that is not the reason you may perhaps wish to try GMX -
http://www.gmx.de/ (available in different languages, not just in
German) - or Webmail South Africa - http://webmail.co.za/

Both work very nice - I have a GMX account for nearly as long as GMX
exists (which is quite some years) and never had any major issues with
it (as far as SMTP and POP is concerned; web interface is a different
issue but I only use it when personal information needs to be
updated).

Webmail.ZA has shown to be accessible under very bad circumstances. It
was usable even three days after 9/11 when the diesel of the central
Internet node located under the former twin towers ran out of fuel and
the Internet turned out not nearly as bomb proof as it was said to be.

What is MX? How to do this kind of query?
Thanks.

I use gmail just because it provides a huge space
(2GB) and can group emails into threads. Does GMX
has features like these? The yahoo email box is
also good, but it can not group emails into threads.
