-Saturday's Milonga--a Historic Event!

July 5th Milonga, who was there? It is better to ask: who was NOT there!!! In stead of dancing continuously, many sat out a tanda here and there to watch the lovely, sweet, elegant and inexhaustible Mimi Santapa dance with men AND women! My thanks go out to Victor Crighton for dj-ing the event.

By the way, this week we're expecting to have our friends from Tallahassee as guests again at the Milonga!

-Mimi Santapa's Power

Gordon's interview Mimi tells us how incredibly good the level of dancing was in tango's golden age.

The past week we had a chance to find out WHAT made the dancers, especially the men, so good. Between July 5 and July 8 people from Gainesville "worshipped at the altar of Santa. Postura," guided by high-priestess Mimi Santapa, and she empowered them to liberate themselves to dance!

It is not just the many details of body mechanics that she provides, but the concepts that integrate them that makes her teaching so powerful. For example, "the Violin" denotes her concept of the embrace, and "Toreador" refers to using one's axis to turn, etc.

The great thing is that Gordon is already planning to bring her back next year!!! So we will do our best in the meantime to incorporate her lessons in our own dancing and teach it to as many people as possible. This time there were about 25 people in each workshops, but we expect the word-of-mouth to spread and next year will be VERY BUSY...

Photographer Sarah Hsu's hours of work at the July 5 workshops resulted in the publishing of the picture at:

-Mimi's Farewell Milonga

Four of us traveled to Gordon's Milonga House on Tuesday for Mimi's farewell milonga. This was a happy event, featuring Dubravko's singing accompanied by a gentleman on piano. It also provided me with a good opportunity to reflect on the significance of Mimi's visit. When one observes how much Mimi cares about sharing EVERYTHING she knows with all who listen one has to wonder how it is possible that she is the last person left in the world who teaches "la postura"--this is the open secret--open among the best tango dancers in the world.

So a lot of credit goes to Gordon for his openness in recognizing Mimi's greatness and working to get to the bottom of her teachings.

-Thursday's Guided Practicum

Thursday evenings practicum/class has been running for a good month now. Starting this week we will start dedicating the class to integrating Mimi's concepts. Please email me if you're interested in attending.

-A Spectacular Cup of Coffee

For the past year, Tango y Té has been serving different high quality coffees, courtesy of chris and Nora of Sweeteater Organic Coffee Roasters.

Tonight's Milonga will feature a Lekempti coffee from Ethiopia, Viennese Roast that is truly spectacular. Chris describes it as, "a rich, sweet, fruity tea-like cup with spicy aromatics."

-A Look Ahead

July 12: Regular Milonga
July 17: Guided Practicum
July 19, "ad infintum": Regular Milonga
