சுவர்த் தாள் என்றே இதைச் சொல்லலாம். [அப்படிச் சொல்லக் கூச்சப்
படவேண்டாம்.] சுவரில் பொதிக்க வேண்டிய தாள் சுவர்த் தாள் தானே? அந்தச்
சுவர் மெய்யான சுவராகவோ, மெய்நிகர் சுவராகவோ இருக்கலாம்; அதனால் என்ன?
நான் இப்படிச் சொல்லுவதற்கு ஒரு காரணம் உண்டு. திரைப்படமும்
விளம்பரங்களும் வந்த நாளாக, ஒரு 60, 65 ஆண்டுகளில், தமிழ்கூறு உலகம்
எங்கணும் wall poster - சுவரொட்டி பற்றிச் சொல்லி வருகிறார்கள் தானே?
இந்தச் சுவரொட்டி என்ற சொல்லின் கருத்து நன்கு நமக்கு ஊறிவிட்டது. அதை
ஒட்டி, சுவர்த் தாள் என்பதும் நமக்கு எளிதில் புரிபடும். இன்னும்
துல்லியம் கருதினால், wall poster என்பதை சுவர்ப் பொதிப்பு என்றும் கூடச்
சொல்ல முற்படுவேன். ஏனென்றால், ஒட்டுதலைக் காட்டிலும் பொதிதல் =
பொருத்துதல் என்ற வினை நன்றாக பொருந்தும். பின்னணி என்ற சொல் இங்கு
பொருந்தி வராது. அது பின்னால் அணி செய்தல் (= வரிசைப்படுத்தி அடுக்குதல்)
என்று வேறு ஓர் ஆழமான பொருளை உணர்த்தி, background என்று கொண்டுவந்து
விடும்.

பதாகை என்ற சொல் பலநாட்களாய் இருப்பது தான்.
* ring tone
கறங்கும் (அல்லது கலிங்கும்) தொனி. (கறங்குதல், கலிங்குதல் = ஒலித்தல்;
எவ்வளவுநாள் தான் மணியோசை என்று ஒப்புமைச் சொல்லையே சொல்லிக் கொண்டு
இருப்பது? நம்முடைய சரியான சொற்களை மறுபடியும் புழங்க விடுவோமே?
எங்கெல்லாம் ring என்று ஒலிக்குறிப்பு வினைச் சொல் வருகிறதோ, அங்கெல்லாம்
கறங்குதலைப் (அல்லது கலிங்குதலைப்) புழங்கலாம். கொஞ்சம் கூடத் தயக்கம்
வேண்டாம்.

நகர் (இடை) பேசி. mobile person = நகராளி; cell phone = செல்(லிடை) பேசி
* gadget
1886, gadjet (but said to date back to 1850s), sailors' slang word for
any small mechanical thing or part of a ship for which they lacked, or
forgot, a name; perhaps from Fr. ga^chette "catchpiece of a
mechanism," dim. of ga^che "staple of a lock."
தமிழில் staple of the lock என்பதைக் கொக்கி என்றுதான் சொல்லுகிறோம்;
பூட்டைத் திறந்து காட்டி, "சாவியை இப்படிப் போட்டுத் திறந்தா, இந்தக்
கொக்கி இந்தக் காடைக்குள்ளே விழணும்பா" என்று சொல்லுகிறோம் இல்லையா?
கொக்கும், கொடுக்கும் ஒன்றுதான். "வளைந்த பொருத்து" என்று பொருள்.
கொடுக்காப் புளிப் பழம் சாப்பிட்டிருக்கிறீர்களோ? வளைந்து சுருண்டு
கிடக்கும் பழம் கொடுக்காப் புளி. சற்றே மெலிந்த புளிப்புடன், சுவையாக
இருக்கும் பழம். இன்றைக்கு நகர்ப்புறத் தமிழர்கள் சற்றும் அறியாத பழம்.
நாட்டுப்புறங்களிலும் அழிந்து கொண்டிருக்கும் பழம். [தமிழ்நாட்டின்
வளத்தில் இன்னும் ஒன்றாய் அழிந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறது.] அதில் வரும்
கொடுக்கு என்ற முன்னொட்டு வளைந்த நீட்டத்தைக் குறிக்கும்.
வால் என்பதற்குக் கூட கொடுக்கு என்ற பொருள் உண்டு. கொ(டு)க்கின் சிறியது
கொ(டு)க்கட்டை. மேலை மொழிகளில் get என்று வருவது போல கட்டை என்ற சொல் நம்
மொழியில் சிறியதைக் குறிக்கும் பின்னொட்டாய் அமைய முடியும். கொக்கட்டை
என்பதைச் சொல்லுவதற்குப் பெரிதாய்த் தோன்றினால், அல்லது தயங்கினால்,
கொக்கை என்றே கூட gadget -யைச் சொல்லலாம். கொக்கை - catchpiece of a
mechanism என்று சொல்ல முடியும்.
* widget
"gadget, small manufactured item," c.1920, Amer.Eng., probably an
alteration of gadget, perhaps based on which it.
எங்கோ ஓரிடத்தில் இடுங்கி, ஒட்டிக் கொண்டு கொடுக்காய் இருக்கும் ஒரு
பொருத்தை, இடுக்கை என்றே சொல்லலாம். விக்கிப்பீடியாவிற்குள் போனால்,
widget என்பதற்கு கீழே உள்ள விளக்கங்களைக் கொடுக்கிறார்கள். இடுக்கை
என்று நான் பரிந்துரைக்கும் சொல் அவைகளுக்கும் பொருந்தியே வருகிறது.

A screensaver is a computer program originally designed to conserve
the image quality of computer displays by blanking the screen, or
filling it with moving images or patterns when the computer was not in
use. Today, screensavers are primarily used for entertainment or
security purposes.
அந்தக் காலத்தில் இருந்த cathode ray display களில் ஒரே படத்தைத்
தொடர்ச்சியாகக் காட்டிக் கொண்டிருந்தால் அப்படியே அந்தப் படத்தை அழிக்க
முடியாமல் கணித்திரை பொரிந்து பொட்டுவிழுந்தாற் போல தொடர்ச்சியாய் நிழல்
தோற்றம் காட்டக் கூடும். to "save" the screen from burn-in என்பதற்காக
இந்த screen saver நிரலிகள் எழுந்தன. இவற்றைக் கணித்திரைக் காப்பிகள்
அல்லது கணித்திரைச் சேமிகள் என்று சொல்லலாம். நாளாவட்டத்தில் தமிழ்ப்
புழக்கம் கூடினால், கணி என்பதை விட்டுவிடலாம். அப்பொழுது திரைச் சேமிகள்
என்பது பழகிவிடும்.
