A question about: "talk.religion.christian.science".
This is the only newsgroup I could find named "christian.science".
Is this a newsgroup about the Christian Science Church?
(Mary Baker Eddy, etc.)?
I have also crossposted this to alt.religion.christianity.
If anyone there knows about a "christian.science" newsgroup,
please fill me in.
If so, I have an item of interest for CS- a "scientific proof of God"
which proves much if not all of what Mary Baker Eddy wrote.
("God is mind.", etc.)
I'm wondering if the CS "Mother Church" in Boston would
be able to assist me in getting a competent opinion of this
"scientific proof of God".
After all, there must be many physicists among the
members of the CS church... physicist who at least
presumably would some idea of what God is.
I'm wondering if it's possible that the CS would
undertake to "evaluate" Hammond's claim that a
scientific proof of God has been discovered?
It certainly sounds like it would be the shot in the arm
that the CS is looking for in the face of declining membership
and recent financial problems based on that decline.
A "scientific proof" of God would certainly breathe new
life into Christian Science.
But..... beyond that, there is the basic question of
exactly who is qualified to give us an authoritative
opinion on the validity (credibility) of Hammond's
discovery. Where can we find a powerful credible
institution that is dedicated to BOTH science and religion?
Maybe it's time for me to write a letter to Virginia Harris?
Any suggestions or opinions welcomed.

Hey, I've already discovered that my scientific proof of God
is a virtual proof of everything that Mary Baker Eddy ever said.
The Christian Science Church sound like a natural to investigate
my discovery. They must have plenty of PhD physicists in
their membership... AND they know something about God!

Anyone know anything about Virginia Harris chairman of the board
of directors of the Mother Church in Boston? I ran across a
transcript of her being interviewed on Larry King Live in
2001. Anybody know how old she is, and is she still
the chairman of the board? Anybody know where there is a
pix of her on the Internet?

I have been investigating Mary Baker Eddy.
I am amazed to find that she is one of only a handfull
of people in history to actually find out what God is.
How a mere woman was able to do this is astonishing
to me.. knowing as I do the decades of life and death
struggle it requires to discover it.
Beyond that, it is a miracle that she progressed beyond
the stage of explaining this discovery in "parables"... that,
being an eminently practical new England woman, she
explains it in terms of "science". She is the only "prophet"
if you will, who has ever said "God is mind"... a
historic statement given that it is now backed up by
a formal religion and a major church following.
As a man, I certainly am awed and nonplussed by her
bravery, strength and success.
At any rate, my discovery (GOD=G_uv) completely
confirms everything she ever said, and the historic
acconmplishment of her "discovery of God".
As you know CS membership has been declining
since the 1950's, in fact the Church is now facing actual
financial problems. We may suspect of course that the
underlying reason for this is that Mary Baker Eddy (in 1866)
when she wrote Science and Health was primarilly interested
in the "healing" aspect of knowing wha God is. Of
course there have been tremendous advances in medicine
and public health care since the Civil War when she wrote
the book, and today this has probably contributed to
the decline of the Church (which is not a major decline by the way).
What I see now, is a new mission for "knowlege of God"
which is perhaps more important even than physical healing... and
that is the social healing of human progress. The healing
of "social health" on a global scale. As you know
we are now in a religious conflict with a foreign religion.
There is still such a thing as "atheistic communism" in the
world. World society at large is still basically ignorant of
what God is. Therefore, it seems to me that the CS curch
would have a vested interest in determining if the scientific
proof of God that I have discovered is valid. Not only would
in be a scientific confirmation of everything the church teaches,
but it would also point the way to a new need, and a new role
for CS on the world stage. Certainly CS has been aware of this
need for a long time, since their publication of the Christian Science
Monitor is certainly a historic sign of that.
I intend to contact the board of directors of the mother church in
Boston, eventually... Virginia Harris chairwoman, in particular,
and find out if the CS church would be willing to undertake an
"investigation" into this newly discovered "scientific proof of God".
Of course, I wish that I could talk to Mary Baker herself, but
hopefully the current leadership of the church still has her
vision, and won't rebuff me without due consideration.
Meanwhile, I have contacted the local Hebrew Synagogue
and have asked them if they would write me a letter of introduction
to the board of directors. The local Rabbi asked me "why us"
since you're not Jewish? I told him "I didn't know why, exactly"
but felt that they might be the proper people to introduce me to
a major Christian church board of directors (I am a Congregationalist
by birth, but have never attended church regularly).
If you have any less awkward or more appropriate ideas
concerning my attempt to contact the Christian Science Church
in Boston, please advise.

its leader Mary Baker Eddy, though some say the church is now in

Library for the Betterment of Humanity," which will open its doors
this weekend. The museum includes an extensive archive of Eddy's
writings that one Harvard professor called a "gold mine," reports

the new edifice is "The Healing Revelation of Mary Baker Eddy" by
Martin Gardener, 1993. Gardner exposed Eddy as a rather typical cult
leader focused upon her own personal power. He also details her
fascination with spiritualism, morphine addiction and hysterical
fits of rage. Eddy apparently also liked to sue her critics and was
something of a plagiarist.
Mark Twain once said of Eddy's writings, "I am convinced, that the
circumstantial evidence shows that her actual share in the work of
composing and phrasing these things was so slight as to be
inconsequential."
Eddy's teachings encouraged her followers to reject modern medicine.
Subsequently, Christian Scientists have often refused medical care
for themselves and their children. This has led to the criminal
prosecution of some of the sect's parents.
"The Religion that kills -- Christian Science," by Linda S. Kramer,
Huntington Books 1999, explains this destructive aspect of Eddy's
religious creation. But again, Kramer's book is unlikely to be found
on the shelves of the Eddy library anytime soon."
