By the way, you should notice that I am NOT denying your right to
think homosexuality is wrong.
But why all the vitriol to this ONE sin? There are LOTS of things
listed as sins in the Bible but I'm asking why conservatives get so
upset about homosexuality.
I mean, if you really are so concerned about marriage, it seems like
you should really hate divorcees.
Afterall, heterosexuals who get divorced are a much bigger threat to
the institution of marriage than is a gay couple.
Basically, I still don't understand why you are specifically angry at
gays more than other "sinners."

Thanks for identifying one of the elephants in the Religious Right's living
room. I agree with you completely.
I've had many, many gay, lesbian, bisexual and even transgendered friends,
acquaintances and coworkers over the decades. Not one of them ever "forced
their homosexuality on me" or anyone else. For some reason, the Religious
Right sees LGBT people as inhuman monsters. They are incapable of treating
LGBT people as equals under God. They are committing a sin: Judging their
fellow humans.
The Religious Right seems to specialize in damning entire groups of people
based upon ignorance, lies, bigotry, hatred and fear. They are the modern
witch hunters.

I was wondering if anyone was going to affirm my position. Thanks.
Despite what people say about me, I actually believe in the bible and
have studied it A LOT.
While I think Paul's condemnation of gays is irrelevant to modern
society, (like head coverings or the silence of women), I understand
how some Christians can believe that homosexuaity is wrong.
But, this is no excuse to single out gays or -- especially -- hate
them. We are called to LOVE sinners and LOVE our enemy. (not that I
think gays are my enemy, but conservatives obviously think so.)
As an evangelical Christian I was taught that we are ALL sinners and
we ALL fall short of the glory of God. This theology should lead to
our own humility -- not our condemnation of others.
I have worked in the church nearly my whole life and -- BELIEVE ME --
the church if full of sinners. (Not just parishoners but leadership,
too.) And most are not at all repentant. Homosexuals have no corner
on that!

I have not known that many gay people. As an evangelical Christian I
assume that gay people either stay away from my social circles or are
very deep in the closet.
Which makes it ALL THE WEIRDER that evangelicals are so obsessed with
them.
Honest to goodness, does James Dobson even know any gay people? I kind
of doubt it. So why is he so obsessed?

So, why do you think this is? That's my question, here.
But, conservative's un-Christlike hatefulness is the bigger threat to
the church.
Consider this interesting article by Barna:

A NEW GENERATION EXPRESSES ITS SKEPTICISM AND FRUSTRATION WITH
CHRISTIANITY
September 24, 2007
(Ventura, CA) - As the nation’s culture changes in diverse ways, one
of the most significant shifts is the declining reputation of
Christianity, especially among young Americans. A new study by The
Barna Group conducted among 16- to 29-year-olds shows that a new
generation is more skeptical of and resistant to Christianity than
were people of the same age just a decade ago.
[...]
Interestingly, the study discovered a new image that has steadily
grown in prominence over the last decade. Today, the most common
perception is that present-day Christianity is "anti-homosexual."
Overall, 91% of young non-Christians and 80% of young churchgoers say
this phrase describes Christianity. As the research probed this
perception, non-Christians and Christians explained that beyond their
recognition that Christians oppose homosexuality, they believe that
Christians show excessive contempt and unloving attitudes towards gays
and lesbians. One of the most frequent criticisms of young Christians
was that they believe the church has made homosexuality a "bigger sin"
than anything else. Moreover, they claim that the church has not
helped them apply the biblical teaching on homosexuality to their
friendships with gays and lesbians.
The ‘UnChristian’ Label
When young people were asked to identify their impressions of
Christianity, one of the common themes was "Christianity is changed
from what it used to be" and "Christianity in today’s society no
longer looks like Jesus."

The basic gist of the article is that even non-Christians think
conservatives are un-Christlike.
I'm not impressed. You just think you are being subtle. It's not
working.

You go on and on about homosexuality and then ask why OTHERS are
obsessed? It's not plausible. Certainly not as plausible as the idea
that you are attempting to sell the idea of homosexuality, or at
least the acceptance of it, while pretending to be an objective
observer.
> I mean, if you really are so concerned about marriage, it seems
> like you should really hate divorcees.
You of course are not at all concerned with marriage.
> Afterall, heterosexuals who get divorced are a much bigger threat
> to the institution of marriage than is a gay couple.
Fags pretending to "get married" is a gross idea whose main
attaction is the destruction of the sanctity of marriage.
> Basically, I still don't understand why you are specifically angry
> at gays more than other "sinners."
You should go back into the closet and stop pestering people. You
aren't fooling anyone.
Conservative aren't impressed with subtilty becuase they minds tend to
be wired only for black-and-white thinking.
They want to BELIEVE rather than understand.
Does that describe you?
> You go on and on about homosexuality and then ask why OTHERS are

I haven't pretended to be objective. Read a couple more of my posts.
(I believe that Jesus wants us to love homosexuals, not hate them.)
I am, however, being totally honest with this question.
Of all the sins listed in the bible, why are conservatives so hateful
of gays?
Your charge is just plain silly -- you say I am OBSESSED with
homosexuality because I'm asking why conservatives are so OBSESSED
with it?
Every time conservatives want to "get out the vote" the GOP puts an
anti-gay measure on the ballot. It's a sure fire winner -- REPUBLICANS
TURN OUT IN DROVES.
I'm asking "why the heck do you guys care so much?" and you accuse
_me_ of being obsessed. This is nuts.
> You of course are not at all concerned with marriage.
Based on what, do you conclude that?
> Fags pretending to "get married" is a gross idea whose main
> attaction is the destruction of the sanctity of marriage.
Based on what do you say that?
Excuse me for being "subtle" but your use of the world "gross" make me
think conservatives hate gays because they are grossed out by the
thought of gay sex. Conservatives can be very emotional and
reactionary that way.
But the "grossed out" theory doesn't totally make sense because most
people are "grossed out" by the thought of their parents having sex,
and they don't HATE their parents! Most people are "grossed out" by
the though of very elderly people having sex but there is no movment
to ban marriage for those over 80.
So, I doubt that conservatives hate gays so much because they are
grossed out by the idea of it. Heck, several prominent anti-gay
conservative Republicans were having gay sex on the side and seemed to
be enjoying it.
> You should go back into the closet and stop pestering people. You
> aren't fooling anyone.
Are you insinuating I'm gay? If so, you don't get the metaphor.
If I were secretly gay, I'd actually be _IN_ the closet right now --
not having to go BACK IN.
>> Fundamentalists Blame Economic Crisis on Gays
In a September 25th blog post titled ‘The Nation Will Right Itself If
It Fixes Sex’, Christian Civil League of Maine Executive Director
Michael Heath writes that the financial crisis facing Wall Street is a
symptom of America’s sinful sexual culture, including the acceptance
of gay unions.
…A related post by Center for Immigration Studies Executive Director
Mark Krikorian at the National Review’s website pushes a similar
theme, this time focusing on Friday’s failure of WaMu. Krikorian
suggests the big bank failed because it was too accommodating to
minorities, including gays, African-Americans and Hispanics.
