belly up and I'm not sure how long the other will continue running. I
can still boot up but just. I'd like to interrupt all the spiritual
debating (read: conflict) for a second to ask for opinions on what a
good desktop might be. We're going Black Friday shopping in the
afternoon.

By an imac best investment you'll ever make. Now that I'm a Mike all
Mikes should have Macs.

I want one. They are more expensive, I know people say they are worth it,
but if you don't have the extra money to buy one, it doesn't matter if they
ARE worth paying more for them. I'm open to the Universe bringing one my
way, like a contest or good deal, etc. And I probably would have to keep my
PC because all my software is on it and I'd have to start all over. Okay, so
the Universe can give me one that already has Photoshop (for MAC) on it.
I'm not a Mike but I can be Happy.

I've had a DELL XPS 400 for going on 4 years.
I have an external 250 gb hardrive I got after, because of all my photos
and stuff.
I've replaced the DVD burner drive twice, but mainly because I buy low
priced ones.
Same with the mouse.
Has WIN XP which I am satisfied with (I'd have been satisfied with 98, if
I could have kept using it and getting stuff for it).

There are some really great deals now, with Windows 7. HP has a great quad
core with windows 7 at Best Buy.

Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of having a Mac instead? (LOL)
I know someone who just got a Mac and is running Windows 7 on it.
I guess when I can afford a Mac I could afford to buy the software to go
with it.
And like Office there is Open Office which is free. I mainly use Word and
Publisher anyway.

there are some things that
are not suppoted by Mac so they have a way around it. I've never used one,
maybe one day I'll try it out
but the ladies on my list that do just rave about them.

last Mac for almost 9 years The hard drive finally failed, but it was
the after market hard drive that failed not the stock HD that came
with the machine. I was able to save all of my info. buy going through
the original hard drive and pulling everything off and putting it all
on my new Imac. During the 9 years with my old Mac I never had a virus
or a crash.
They say that you should use your Macs pee_u side for business apps
and the mac side for art and surfing the net. As usual you get what
you pay for.

I know at one time they were better for graphics, but I've heard in
recent years that's not the same.
I wonder how they can have no viruses (though I've heard they can have
some, just not as much and as bad) and Windows can't seem to do that?
I wonder if viruses for Windows are started by the people at Apple LOL
Or, maybe people who make and sell anti viruses scans. They'd have a vested
interested in it.
