newspapers, the Baha'i International Community claimed:
1) That a Baha'i holy site in the town of Barfurush, Mazandaran, namely
the grave of Mullah Muhammad 'Ali Barfurushi Quddus (d. 1849), had been
desecrated and destroyed.
- What these editorials failed to mention was that this gravesite in
Mazandaran was at no time, whether now or in the past, a Baha'i holy
site nor the holy figure interred a Baha'i.
The Baha'i International Community claimed this grave had been
destroyed as a matter of fact. No evidence of such destruction was ever
furnished to any human rights body yet it was repeated again and again.
THE ACTUAL FACTS
The grave of Siyyid Mulla Muhammad 'Ali Barfurushi "Quddus" is situated
in an all girls school in the hamlet of Barfurush outside of the town
of Sari. This grave has been there since the murder of said individual
in the summer of 1849 by a mob incited against said by Sa'id al-Ulama,
the Usuli mujtahid of the town. During the early part of 2004 routine
repairs were conducted upon the structure of the school, and during
these reparis a wall some several yards away was partially damaged.
This wall was nowhere near the grave nor has the grave been damaged.
This was therefore no desecration ordered by the IR regime but a
repair.
In the New York Times, the London Times, et al, the Baha'i
International "cult" community had claimed this desecration as a matter
of fact. To date they have not furnished a single leaf of documentary
evidence to any human rights body regarding this incident or any such
desecration.
2) Shortly after this incident they claimed that the house of Mirza
Bozorg Nuri, situated in the old Arab quarter of Tehran, had been
destroyed as well. Once again, no documentary evidence was provided for
this claim, and the house still stands at this time.
3) Towards the end of 2004 the Baha'i International Community then
began claiming to be victims of "cultural genocide" by the Iranian
nation as a whole, without specifying the IR but rather Iran en toto.
This claim was first articulated by Moojan Momen on the Tarikh list and
shortly thereafter a journal article by one Friedrich Affolter appeared
making this same claim.
- This claim was immediately questioned by a sting of professional
human rights academics, amongst them Associate Professor Reza Afshari.
All of these items were taken to the former United Nations Commission
for Human Rights (now desolved) as petitions for egregious human rights
violations by the Islamic Republic towards their community, and all
were rejected as unsubstantiated by the former body in early 2005.
Shortly thereafter the item below appeared on the Baha'i International
community's own website. At this time the Baha'i International "cult"
community is questioning the former body's resolve in refusing their
petition, and even denying that their petition was found to be
unsubstantiated. Yet to date no independently verifiable, documentary
evidence has been provided for the allegations noted above by the
Baha'i international cult community.
In short, in 2004-2005 the Baha'i "international cult" community lied
to the general public as well as the human rights community regarding
human rights violations, and as such were told where to go by the
former UN body. And still no evidence has been forthcoming on these
claims, regarding:
1) The destruction of the shrine of Quddus
2) The destruction of the house of Mirza Bozorg
3) Or "Cultural genocide"
Nor for that matter have the Baha'is explained:
1) Where the evidence is for the uhj's follow-ups on the disappeared
NSA of Iran circa 1979?
2) Or, where is the IRI's official statement on the fate and final
whereabouts of these individuals is?
3) Or, why is there an official Baha'i body in Iran today sanctioned by
the
Islamic regime today known as the Ma'arif and why a Mr Khanjani who
represents this body is left unmolested by the Islamist regime?
DISMAY AT LACK OF HUMAN RIGHTS RESOLUTION ON IRAN AS PERSECUTION
WORSENS
GENEVA, Switzerland, 14 April 2005 (BWNS) -- The Baha'i
International
Community today expressed its dismay and disappointment at the
failure of the UN Commission on Human Rights to even consider a
resolution on human rights in Iran, given the worsening situation in
that country and in particular the persecution of the Baha'is.
"In view of the sharp increase of human rights violations against
the Baha'i community of Iran, it is nothing less than shocking that the
Commission on Human Rights has for the third year in a row failed to
renew international monitoring of the situation," said Bani Dugal,
principal representative of the Baha'i International Community to the
United Nations.
"Over the past year, two important Baha'i holy places have been
destroyed, Baha'i students have been denied access to higher education,
and, most recently, Baha'is in Yazd and Tehran have been swept up in a
new wave of assaults, harassment and detentions.
"All of this has come as part of a continuing pattern of religious
persecution instigated and condoned by the Iranian government,
which has in years past faced the clear condemnation of the
international community for its actions," said Ms. Dugal.
We are very disappointed at the failure of the Commission on Human
Rights to live up to its mandate," said Ms. Dugal. "Unfortunately,
countries which in the past have initiated resolutions calling for the
international monitoring of Iran backed away from the table again this
year,"said Ms. Dugal.
Ms. Dugal's comments came at the end of the Commission's period for
consideration of country-specific resolutions today, when all hope
for such a resolution on Iran had passed.
Three weeks ago, the Baha'i International Community strongly urged
the Commission to table and pass a resolution on the human rights
situation in Iran, saying that "the gross, flagrant, repeated
violations of human rights in Iran -- including the abuses that target
Baha'is in that country -- warrant the re-establishment of a monitoring
mechanism."
"For three years, this Commission has not been capable of
presenting a resolution on Iran, while the situation there has
gradually but steadily deteriorated," said Diane Ala'i, the community's
representative to the United Nations in Geneva, in a statement to the
Commission on 23 March 2005.
"And now, over the past few months, we have had the impression of a
shifting back in time, some 20 years or more, as we have witnessed a
resumption of violent attacks on the Baha'i community in Iran,"
said Ms. Ala'i.
"The most serious outbreak occurred in Yazd, where several Baha'is
were assaulted in their homes and beaten, a Baha'i's shop was set on
fire and burned, and others were harassed and threatened, following a
series of arrests and short-term detentions. The Baha'i cemetery in
Yazd was wantonly destroyed, with cars driven over the graves,
tombstones smashed and the remains of the interred left exposed."
Ms. Ala'i also said that in March, in Tehran, Iranian intelligence
agents entered the homes of several Baha'is and spent hours ransacking
their houses before carting away their possessions and taking them into
custody.
"Five Baha'is have been imprisoned just this past month," said Ms.
Ala'i.
"Two were finally released on bail, but family and community
members have not been able to locate those in detention. Two others,
who had previously been briefly detained for nothing more than
distributing copies of a courteous letter to President Khatami, have
now received the maximum sentence for this so-called offence.
"Six more Baha'i families recently had their homes and land
confiscated, depriving them of their only means of livelihood."
"Indeed, human rights violations in Iran have again become so grave
that, in our view, they warrant a clear signal from the international
community and a decision to reestablish international monitoring --
now," Ms. Ala'i said in March.
Between 1978 and 1998, the Iranian government executed more than 200
Baha'is. Hundreds more Baha'is were imprisoned, and tens of
thousands were deprived of jobs, pensions, businesses, and educational
opportunities.
In the face of intense international pressure, most significantly
through a series of United Nations human rights resolutions, the
Iranian government has essentially halted the executions and greatly
reduced the number of Baha'is held in prison.
Yet while it has halted the most egregious forms of direct violence
against individual members of the Baha'i community, the government
has nevertheless continued its campaign of persecution, principally
through social and economic restrictions that aim at slowly suffocating
an entire religious community.

Iran: Update to IRN29286.E of 8 May 1998 on reported cases of apostasy
and the penalties imposed (1997-1998)
No reports of executions of persons convicted of apostasy in the period
1997-1998 could be found among the sources consulted by the Research
Directorate. However, several sources reported that a man called
Ruhollah Rowhani was executed on 21 July 1998 for allegedly trying to
convert a Muslim woman to the Baha'i faith (The Providence
Journal-Bulletin 10 Sept. 1998; Canada News Wire 22 July 1998; AI 24
July 1998). AP reported that the Iranian government denied the report of
this execution (26 July 1998). Prior to this reported execution no
Baha'i had been executed since 1992 (The Providence Journal-Bulletin 10
Sept. 1998; Canada News Wire 22 July 1998; New York Times 24 July 1998).
Human Rights Without Frontiers reported that as of July 1998 the
following Baha'i persons were in prison under sentence of death: Musa
Talibi and Dhabihu'llah Mahrami for apostasy; Sirus Dhabihi-Muqaddam,
Hidayat Kashifi Najafadabi and Ata'u'llah Hamid Nasirizadih for
"continuing 'Family Life' meetings;" and Bihnam Mithaqi and Kayvan
Khalajabadi for "Zionist Baha'i activities" (15 Oct. 1998). However,
Amnesty International reported that Musa Talibi and Dhabihu'llah Mahrami
were originally charged with apostasy and then convicted of espionage
(1998, 200), while the Baha'i International Community stated that "court
records show clearly that it was for 'apostasy' that the two men were
initially tried, convicted and sentenced to death," while noting
subsequent claims by the Iranian government that the two men were
convicted of spying for Israel (Jan.-Mar. 1997). The Director of
Governmental Relations for the Baha'i Community of Canada stated in a 25
January 1999 telephone interview, that Musa Talibi and Dhabihu'llah
Mahrami are the only persons they have on record as being in prison at
this time under conviction of apostasy.
On July 23 1998 the U.S. Department of State reported that seven Baha'i
were under sentence of death and that three of the planned executions
were believed to be "imminent." In October 1998, Amnesty International
and the Baha'i International Community reported that Sirus
Dhabihi-Muqaddam and Hedayatollah Kashifi-Najafadabi could soon be
executed after having had their death sentences confirmed (9 Oct. 1998;
July-Sept. 1998). They had not been charged with apostasy but had been
accused of being involved in the same case for which Ruhollah Rowhani
was reported to have been executed (ibid.). The Director of Governmental
Relations for the Baha'i Community of Canada stated that the death
sentences of Sirus Dhabihi-Muqaddam and Hedayatollah Kashifi-Najafadabi
have been appealed to the Supreme Court which has not yet released a
decision (25 Jan. 1999).

According to their own website (yes, W, I can find UN websites, which
is more than you can do) UNHCR is the United Nations High Commissioner
for Refugees, and he's still in business. What does the UN refugee
agency have to do with the Baha'is? What have they said? Can you give
us a reference? No, of course you can't.

The following SourceWatch links -- all information derived from the public domain -- demonstrate that Haifan Baha'is have been involved at the highest levels of the US National Security Administration (NSA) itself, within the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and with those IT contractors, such as Booz Allen Hamilton, who have facilitated the violation of the privacy of millions of individuals worldwide.
