comparison imaginable, rather than Nazis.
For years, the net.kooks have accused anyone who disagrees with them
of being "pedophiles." The authors of various laws enacted to control
Internet content have claimed that these laws will "protect the
children" from the evils of pornography. The arguments against music
file sharing inevitably point to the fact that child porn is on the
Gnutella network as a reason to shut it all down. And whenever
someone wants to attack a subject they don't like, they find a way to
compare it to child pornography.
Nazis are passe, largely thanks to Godwin's Law. But since human
nature is what it is, then there's probably some similar meme already
in existence to note the tendency of people to use "kiddie porn" as
the most hideous, offensive, and inhuman subject imaginable as a basis
for their arguments.

It is hard to believe that people have forgotten the lessons of the cold
war. I grew up during the fifties and early sixties. In school we were
taught to duck under our desks at the warning signal from the local fire
station, and not to emerge until the all clear sounded. I was fourteen
during the Cuban missile crises and people were just plain damned
scared. From that time until President Nixon began his diplomatic game
the threat of nuclear war remained ever present in peoples minds. after
that time while the threat of a deliberate nuclear exchange receded into
the background the threat of an accidental war still existed. In 1986
(?) America was within 8 minutes of a full massive counter strike when a
fault in a keyhole's IF detector flashed a false warning. Ronald Reagan
proved his mettle that day when he demanded confirmation from the DEW
line. When they didn't he ordered a stand down. The threat still
remains. In 1995 Norway launched a space shot. Though the Russians had
been notified the inevitable happened and someone failed to get the word
down the chain. Russia spun up its birds and went red.

So when conservatives use the term Nazi, Communist and Bolshevik they
are correlating the lefts politics and policies with the worst examples
of political systems known to mankind.
As the generations who personally witnessed the rise and demise of
Naziism and Bolshevism it becomes incumbent upon those who have learned
of the true events second hand to make the American public aware of
these facts. My son is now 23, born in 1980. he has no memory or
realization of the experience of growing up under the nuclear gun. A
totalitarian dictatorship today no longer requires a vast industrial
plant to be a deadly threat to world peace. Only a small number of
nuclear and aeronautical physicists, engineers, chemists, and
technicians and a source of aluminum, missile fuels and catalysts, and
fissionable material.
It needs to be pointed out that none of these monsters came to power
through violent revolution. Hitler exploited faults in the Weimar
Constitution to achieve absolute power in Germany. Stalin and Hussein
manipulated party politics to attain their goals.
While the Constitution of the United States provides a system of checks
and balances revealing the foresight of the founding fathers it has not,
cannot, be relied upon today to guard against the evils foolishness and
ignorance of an unaware or misinformed public could induce. During the
last days of the Nixon administration Nixon had become so unstable that
the Joint Chiefs of Staff wisely, and appropriately, ordered their
subordinates to refer any direct orders from their Commander in Chief to
be refereed back to them. This was a situation which was not without
parallel. Both Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt showed definite
signs of mental deterioration while still holding their office. This was
the purpose of Amendment XXV. Fortunately it's extreme provision has
never had to be exercised.
Therefore when conservatives compare the practices and policies of
leftists to that of the Nazis or Bolsheviks they are NOT name calling.
They are attempting to warn the objective reader of a possible course of
events made manifest by the left.

I track referrers to my web site, largely just for fun, it's not a
commercial site or anything. Most of them are what you would expect,
people searching on my name or clicking on a link in a Google article
or email with the link in the signature. A lot of them come from
Subsite since they started putting usenet articles up there.
But the single most frequent source remains this:
Because the link comes from Google groups, I usually also get the
search terms, which are part of the URL in a google groups search, and
invariably the search term which led them to that article is "nude
child art".
Oops, now this article is going to start coming up too ...
So somebody is out there searching for nude child art, and clicks
through to my site.
The fact that I get as many hits as I do from that leads me to believe
that there are a lot of people working really hard on that search.
But what's especially ironic, is that the whole article is basically
critical, talking about how sick people are. Why would somebody,
searching for nude child porn, read an article by somebody calling him
a sick bastard, then click through to that person's web site?
Granted, some percent of them might not even be reading the article,
but it's hard to think that there would be that many of them. I mean
if you're searching on Google groups and you just click through to
every single link you find, you are going to be searching a long time.
So somehow these people appear to be looking for abuse. They see this
article, which is viciously critical of exactly what they are doing,
and want more.
So you have to wonder if all the people who turn to "pedophile" as
their random insult of the day might be throwing at you what they hate
most in themselves, and they think it -must- be an effective insult,
because they now how much they hate it about themselves. If it hurst
ME, it must hurt HIM.
Which is true, but not very useful. Saying to somebody who calls you
a pedophile "no, YOU'RE the pedophile!" has got to be the lamest
comeback possible on usenet. True though it probably is.
But in any event, if you want to know what the next Godwin's law after
pedophilia will be, just ask, what do people hate most about
THEMSELVES.
Because that's what they hate most about everybody else. People
aren't capable of the thought that anybody else might be different
from themselves.

There ought to be a subgroup of general use replacements, plus some
available only to certain contexts.
As for efficacy of using such things in a thread and the subsequent
destruction thereof, I offer the present case as evidence. Hardly took

You see, I'd normally not reply to this, but I'm feeling frisky and I
hate cross-posters.
One - Paedophiles are evil because current morality suggests that
having sex with someone under the age of consent says so.
Two - Saddam Hussein, Hitler and Stalin are all evil because they
killed large percentages of their own population in order to create a
"Utopian" state (in Mr Hussien's case, albeit one where he rules, but
close enough).
OR
One - Paedophile are evil because they break a sexual taboo.
Two - Saddam Hussein, Hitler and Stalin are evil because politicians
