Get this: this woman is a HIGH SCHOOL teacher. She's buys cable, she
said, so they can get the old black & white movies from the 50s and 60s.
For years, right-wing pie holes have been yawping about the breakdown
of our educational system, and I think I might know the reason why: too
many right-wing assholes are teachers. This woman completely removes
herself from modern times, avoiding modern sensibilities. Very much of
what our culture provides is of considerable artistic and creative
merit. Even stuff that shows grownups acting as grownups -- using foul
language, having sex, sometimes killing -- to a reasonable mind can be
seen as more than just "filth." It's absurd. But her closing comment
cinched it. People who provide this fare should be "jailed or hanged."
To think, THIS is what is now empowered under the flagship of President
George W. Bush. God bless American. THIS is the mindset that mediocre
men pander to to achieve power.
What these people like this caller doesn't want to consider as a
reasonable solution is using the technology that's already there.
That's because they're disingenuous about their real intentions.
They're not really that offended by it. They're jealous. There are all
these beautiful Hollywood people, seeming to have a good time, well-paid
for it to boot. Then there are people out there -- like me -- who
refuse to judge them for it. If these people were merely offended,
technology has been introduced that allows them to blank it out. One is
the V chip. Those ratings that appear on the corner at the beginning of
every program is accompanied by a signal, that if you want a certain
level of programming blocked out, it's a simple question of adjusting a
setting. If you're too stupid to figure out that technology, perhaps
you should have cable disconnected all together, and just get broadcast
channels. That might work for you. But just because YOU want to
isolate yourself from the rest of the world because you insist on
adhering to a childish, tight-ass mentality, don't try to ruin it for
the rest of us.
These people are angry. Always angry. The have these pinched faces and
tight lips because they have dirty souls. And most of the time, they're
dumber than a box of hammers. That lady sounded damn near addled.
Even the way she talked about things she seemed to be discussing things
as Rumpelstiltskin might after waking up after fifty years. And
"filth"? What channel is she watching?

Too many right-wing assholes are teachers? When did this happen?
Instead of reading too much into this censorship thing, why don't you do
this, realize that both political parties have support groups that they
have to cater to in order to get their support in the future. In the
case of censorship, it's the religious nut cases that give support to
the Republican party. The same holds true with the Democrat party.
They get big bucks from the trial lawyers in this country and have for
years.
The end result of this type of support is that we have censorship and
people suing McDonalds because some kid was too fat. Or tobacco
companies for not telling dummies that smoking is dangerous.
I'm sure not every Liberal believes in stupid law suits or overpowered
Unions. And not every Conservative believes in Censorship or has a
pro-life (or as I would call, anti-choice) stance. There is good and
bad in both groups supporting our political parties. It's up to us to
decide which of those groups are doing more damage than good to this
country as they push to promote their agenda.
The best way to stop all of this nonsense is to find a completely
different way to fund our political system where no large group controls
the direction this country goes in . Perhaps this is one of the few
things Conservatives and Liberals can agree on.
I was being facetious. Right wingers are always complaining about the
quality of teachers, and if they could just exert more influence on the
process -- mainly, stamping out any sort of liberalism -- things would
get better. But this teacher is a conservative.

I'm not reading anything into this censorship thing. I'm only remarking
on current desires from the right, who constantly bitch that there
aren't enough shows promoting family values, and so on.

I like the way you gloss over everything: "Or tobacco companies for not
telling dummies that smoking is dangerous." I see you missed the core
of that issue.

I know why I'm a liberal, and I believe there are sound working models
for equitable societies currently on earth. Sometimes I actually take
the time to label the point. But this -- this Right-wing Loon Call of
the Day thing -- is fun. I do it strictly for fun.

Absolutely. We can definitely agree on that.

Clearly the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree at all. You loon. Let
me point out a fact, you troglodyte: You and I both know I'm not stupid.
Okay? So you can dig in and strain away like a puppy shitting
pineapples, but you can't even convince me you believe I'm stupid.
You're jealous I'm so much smarter than you. Too bad. Live with it.
You're lucky I don't point out the rest of reality to you.
When did you ever hear of "right-wingers" complaining about the
teachers? The quality of education-yes, but not the teachers. The
complaint of Conservatives is that the quality of education is lowering
but that isn't the teachers fault, it's the system that is at fault.
Now...... there have been complaints that the teachers do have a
political bias in the classroom and this anybody can agree on. Perhaps
this is what you mean.

I don't recall hearing that complaint either. Conservatives believe
that there is too much influence on children because of television but
not because of the family value thing. It's more because of the filth
on the air. Not that I agree with this mind you. But you have to admit
that when you see some of this crap on MTV and others shows that are
intended for the younger generation, there is need for concern.

The tobacco issue? You mean to tell me that some guy decided to start
smoking, asked his doctor about it and his doctor said "Smoking? Great
idea in my opinion" and off he went to purchase a pack of cigarettes?
Let me ask you, if the manufactures of alcohol products decided to put
more alcohol in their beverage than was labeled on the product, they too
should be sued? That's the reason people purchase alcoholic
beverages--FOR THE ALCOHOL!!!!!
And what about all of this nonsense of the liberals being for the poor?
What economic group in this country make up the largest group of
smokers? The rich?

And for every one of those you will find five times more from the other
side of the aisle.
No. The teachers. I've heard it countless times. And the bitching
about the teachers' union. Forget about it.
> Now...... there have been complaints that the teachers do have a

No, not everyone can agree on that. Only extreme right wingers see this
bias. It's becoming clear to me you entered this fray with a bias while
pretending you didn't have one.

Oh, for crying out loud. This is a constant bleat from the right, about
family values. Jesus Christ, I've seen several gatherings on C-SPAN
from these family council organizations, griping about how TV doesn't
have enough wholesome programming. Even the call I posted was about
that. And "filth"? You mean programs for grownups? They're
complaining about shows like "Nip/Tuck," because they show adults'
behinds and shows adults having sex. I'm an adult. Use the V chip if
you don't want your child to see this stuff and shut the hell up. But
that's too simply. They want to conform everyone to their values. The
technology is already there to censor your own home. The debate should
be over, but it somehow goes on and on.

All I'm going to tell you is, there's more to that lawsuit than you
think. It's not about simply selling cigarettes. Look into it. In
fact, the movie "The Insider" is all about it. Watch it and learn.

Liberals are for the poor and the working class. Your biases are showing.

No, you will not. I know, because I've been listening to this for
years, you phony. You came into this thread pretending you were in the
political middle, but you betrayed yourself. That last comment was so
stupid -- all of your comments show you're completely out of touch with
the issues being promoted by your side -- I almost didn't know how to
respond.

Yes, the teachers union is a complaint. But you stated the "quality" of
teachers here.

I don't pretend anything. I fully admit to having a bias but that does
not mean I agree with every single thing the Republicans are for.

I agree with you to the point of Republicans wanting to "conform
everyone to their values." Again, it's more pandering to their
supporters than their very own personal opinion. Both parties do it you
know.

The "excuse" of the suit was that tobacco companies were putting in more
nicotine in the products thus making people more addicted. But that's
all it was, an excuse. The reason people purchase tobacco products is
because this stuff is in there. Now, given that people always knew that
smoking was addicting, what would make it better? What would have made
a difference? This mind set is the exact same of those who wish to
demonize WallMart. In reality, it's the citizens of this country that
made WallMart successful and has nothing to do with how the company
conducts their business. In short, it's the free will of the people who
wish to shop at WallMart and the free will of the people who take up
smoking. Personal Responsibility is the key word here.

Again, it was you that assumed I was a centrist. In your prejudiced
mind, you believe that all Republicans march to the very same drum when
in reality, there is no truth to that at all. Most all of my friends
are Republicans and we all agree on many of the same issues. We are all
against censorship, are pro-choice and believe that some (now illegal)
drugs should be legal. In fact, I don't agree with GW half of the time.
Phony is when you agree with every single thing somebody tells you even
though you may silently disagree.

Nanny nanny poo poo. Why don't you just say, "I know you are but what
am I." Do you see what I mean, how stupid you really are. Let me give
you a clue, Frank. Don't enter a thread without more to say than that.

Frank, Frank, Frank. That does't work. You see, I know you don't think
I'm stupid, but I really do think YOU'RE stupid.
I see that you still haven't gotten over not being allowed to vote on the
