WASHINGTON — President Obama's opening months in the Oval Office have
fortified his standing with the American public, a USA TODAY/Gallup
Poll finds, giving him political capital for battles ahead.
As his 100th day as president approaches next Wednesday, the survey
shows Obama has not only maintained robust approval ratings but also
bolstered the sense that he is a strong and decisive leader who can
manage the government effectively during a time of economic crisis.
S
"A lot of things were ignored over the last eight years, and I think
it's all coming home to roost," says Benjamin Bleadon, 51, an
insurance broker from Skokie, Ill., who was among those surveyed. "He
has given the perception that he understands the issues and that he
has taken control … and we'll just have to wait and see if it works."
Since October, the percentage who see Obama as a "strong and decisive
leader" has jumped 12 percentage points, and his image as an effective
manager has gone up 11 points.
Now, 56% say he has done an "excellent" or "good" job as president vs.
20% who rate him as "poor" or "terrible." An additional 23% say he has
done "just OK."

YEA RIGHT.
He could not manage a lemon aid stand if three little kids helped him

>Poll: Public thinks highly of Obama
Obama's poll numbers are similar to Bush's at the same time. In 100
days, neither's policies have had any time to kick in, so the polls
are nothing more than a perception: a Beauty Pageant. Well, let's
compare the contestants:
Obama is more charismatic than Bush. Obama is prettier than Bush.
Obama speaks better than Bush. WAY more women dream about having sex
with Obama than Bush.
Hands down, Obama wears the crown. So why aren't his numbers clearly
higher than Bush's? It has to be your "ignorant morons", the Perez
Hiltons of the right-wing.
If only they'd been born "ignorant gifted" or "smart-thinking morons",
what a difference that would make...

Johnny; in the future, Terminators will be turning guitar players into
guitar strings. My question is this:
When the pile of guitar strings exceeds the pile of remaining guitar
players, do Terminators say "Enough strings" or do we just end up with
a really, really big pile of guitar strings?

You do understand don't you that it would take more than the democrats
to win an election?
He also doesn't quite understand that yelling that a majority of voters
are morons isn't going to help his side in the next election.

Barack's in the basement
President Obama's media cheerleaders are hailing how loved he is. But at the
100-day mark of his presidency, Mr. Obama is the second-least-popular
president in 40 years.
According to Gallup's April survey, Americans have a lower approval of Mr.
Obama at this point than all but one president since Gallup began tracking
this in 1969. The only new president less popular was Bill Clinton, who got
off to a notoriously bad start after trying to force homosexuals on the
military and a federal raid in Waco, Texas, that killed 86. Mr. Obama's
current approval rating of 56 percent is only one tick higher than the
55-percent approval Mr. Clinton had during those crises.
As the attached chart shows, five presidents rated higher than Mr. Obama
after 100 days in office. Ronald Reagan topped the charts in April 1981 with
67 percent approval. Following the Gipper, in order of popularity, were:
Jimmy Carter with 63 percent in 1977; George W. Bush with 62 percent in
2001; Richard Nixon with 61 percent in 1969; and George H.W. Bush with 58
percent in 1989.
It's no surprise the liberal media aren't anxious to point out that their
darling is less popular than George W. Bush. But given the Gallup numbers,
their hurrahs could be more subdued. USA Today's front page touted the April
poll results as positive, with the headline: "Public thinks highly of
Obama." The current cover of Newsweek magazine ponders "The Secret of His
[Mr. Obama's] Success." The comparison with previous presidents is useful
because they are usually popular during their first few months in office -
and most presidents have been more popular than Mr. Obama.
The explanation for Mr. Obama's low approval is that he ran as a moderate
but has governed from the far left. The fawning and self-deceiving press
won't go there. On Sunday's "Meet the Press," host David Gregory asked a
panel about critics who "would say one of the things that he's done in 100
days already is expand the role of government, the size of government."
Historian Doris Kearns Goodwin claimed, "That's what he ran for the
presidency in the first place for."
Perplexed about complaints over Mr. Obama's expansion of government,
Newsweek editor Jon Meacham asked: "does no one listen during campaigns?"
It was these pundits who weren't paying attention during last year's
campaign. In all three presidential debates, Mr. Obama promised to cut
government spending and reduce the size of the deficit. He blamed the
economic crisis on excessive deficits. At no time did candidate Barack Obama
say that more deficit-spending was the solution.
Mr. Obama's popularity after 100 days is the second-lowest for a simple
reason: He is more partisan and divisive than his predecessors - including
Richard Nixon.

At 100 Days, Obama Approval Broad as Well as Deep
At the 100-day mark, President Obama earns kudos for the job he is doing
from majorities of nearly all major categories of Americans. Beyond
extensive support from Democrats and minorities, Obama gets his highest
ratings from low-income Americans, the young, Easterners, and postgrads.
