BLOOMINGTON, IL (AP) -- Daniel Nary is a strong supporter of
libertarianism. He believes in it so strongly that he's willing to
sell himself into slavery.

"Selling myself into slavery is the ultimate expression of free will",
he says. He stresses that he would do so willingly and only under a
contract that guarantees that he would receive the market price for
himself.

As for the money he would receive under the contract, he realizes that
he wouldn't have access to it after giving over his freedom. In fact,
he's promised to donate most of it to a libertarian think tank, the
Reason Foundation in Los Angeles. "I used to be a moderate, until I
started reading [the reason.com blog] Hit and Run. I owe my conversion
to libertarian to them, and this is the least I can do", he says.

Legal experts we contacted were unsure of the enforceability of any
contract that would result, as almost all countries have banned
slavery. It still persists in some countries, but only in a gray area
or in lawless countries such as the Sudan.

Nary is not deterred, and in fact has already received inquires from
certain "persons in the Arabian Gulf area".
