Whereas the trailer of the new Sherlock Holmes movie is all about
sensation - fights, scantily clad seductive women, London landmarks -
its very sad that Hollywood desecrates everything it touches and
infantilizes the audience for its products.
Yes, but utterly necessary when you are one of a handful of corporations
striving to make America a docile and captive market.
So was this movie made by the people who control ABC, NBC, Faux or CBS?
It was made by Guy Ritchie, who can't even control Madonna.
A few of us actually went to see this last night. The trailers don't
do it justice; it's actually a really good film.
I'm watching the older Basil Rathbone movies on TCM today. I think I
like Jude Law's Watson better, because he's more of an equal to
Holmes. The Watson in the old movies is slightly more of a buffoon, to
make Holmes seem even smarter.

An amazingly good movie. Bravo to Downey and Law who breathed new life into
the great detective and the stalwart Dr. Watson without creating a
caricature. Anyone who has read the complete works of Doyle will appreciate
the small distinctions and details taken from the stories.
Really outstanding.

Why would anybody want to?

For me, the ultimate Holmes was Jeremy Brett. He played the role on
British TV in the 80s and 90s. I'll probably rent this one when it
comes out in the spring.
I did see Avatar. Even in 2D, it's pretty amazing.
Two other movies I want to see are The Imaginarium of Doctor Parassus,
and when it comes out, Burton's "Alice in Wonderland".
A really brilliant and strange movie is "Ink". Make sure it has
subtitles, though. The soundtrack overwhelms the dialogue, which is
often whispered.
Brett WAS Sherlock Holmes. No one else will ever be able to come close, but
Downey is definitely worth watching. It was quite spectacular. And Law was
probably the best Watson ever.
