There's a lot on the Democrat agenda that they won't be willing to
risk over a pointless fight about guns right now. I could certainly be
wrong but they don't want to make the same mistakes Clinton did and
lose effective control over Congress in just two years. Unless there's
some kind of high profile mass shooting, don't expect the democratic
leadership to say much about guns. The usual suspects in Congress will
be trying things, but I don't expect it will get much traction.

Being as guns can't commit or cause crime, his point is rather moot, eh?

The idiots have spoken, sadly.
Kinda explains why the FRENCH now say they like the USA!
I agree, as do people much smarter than I.
The balance of power is almost exactly what it was after the 1992
elections. Obama won by almost the exact same popular vote margin that
Clinton did, and they would up with about the same percentages in the
House and Senate. In 1994 they lost both houses, in large part because
of the gun ban. The Democrats have not forgotten that lesson, and we
should remind them every chance we get.
Guns can certainly "cause crime" if you write the law to make it so.
Crimes are what the government makes them out to be.
> As you said, another mass shooting might bring that about.
Well, try not to get any on you.

Sure. I expect possession of certain kinds of firearms (yet to be
determined) to soon be a crime. That ought to "get them off the
street" as the saying goes.
Just like alcohol prohibition removed booze from America and the War on
(Some) Drugs ended that scourge.
Are you a shill for organized crime?

As long as they go after criminals and the causes of crime, they will get
all the support from us they can handle. If they start going after Joe

That's the problem. Many of them aren't crimes today.
That might be his intent, but his voting record would indicate something
else. Either it's not his intent or he's voting for things he doesn't
understand. Neither speaks well of Obama.
Only in silly* states. In Texas, I can buy 14 handguns this afternoon.
-----
* What if you wanted to buy a collection? I heard of one chap who owned
2,000 guns of all kinds. If he were in your state, it would take over 150
years to accumulate such a collection.
What if you inherited a set of guns from a late relative? Does that count?
The micro stamping law only applies to new guns added to the approved
list. Those already on it will be grandfathered in. The (legal) supply
of handguns will dry up eventually, probably, but it will take a
while, years, actually.

Actually, according to my FFL, if you purchase more than one gun within the

You're the one who brought up the inventive "gun crimes" in this thread.

That is true. My FFL would receive multiple items, then let me pick them
up every week until they were gone.
All the more reason to buy local for cash.

It's a federal law. You can find it on the BATFE FAQ site.

As I understand it, at or before the expiration date the manufacturer
has to pay a fee to keep it on the list, it doesn't have to be
re-approved and it doesn't have to be micro stamp capable.

You are more proof that liberalism is a very serious mental disorder.
If you purchase multiple handguns within a certain time period (one week
I think), it must be reported to the ATF by the FFL. This is a federal law.
But, it does not affect the actual purchase. It is not like he has to
ask permission or anything. All he does is send them a form afterwards.

No it's a federal thing and it's been on the books a long time. I
recall buying two "sale" .38s at once for gifts and the dealer looked
at me like I was nuts. He didn't say anything, but clearly didn't
approve. But as far as I was concerned the anti-gunners (in and out of
government) already knew exactly who I was, so I wasn't revealing any
secrets to anyone.

If you sell or dispose of more than one handgun to any
non-licensee during a period of 5 consecutive business days, the
sale must be reported on ATF Form 3310.4, Report of Multiple
Sale or Other Disposition of Pistols and Revolvers, not later
than the close of the business day on which you sold or disposed
of the second handgun. ...

It looks like variations of a particular gun that are not on the list as of
1/1/2010 cannot be added to the list after that date without microstamping.
But, with a little money under the table......who knows.
Bill Smith
I should have been a bit more specific: Google "nightline 1998
group:talk.politics.guns"
back in the good Old Days of Bubbah Clinton, the cosmetically
challenged firearm ban was enacted (Aka the "Assault Weapon Ban").
Several bits of 'fanfic' were written. One of them was titled
"Nightline, September 11, 1998"." and was a 'transcript' of the show,
which was about yet another failure of a ATF Gun Police raid. Acting
on an anonymous tip of unregistered firearms, the "Gun Cops" were
ambushed and killed to the last man - including the guy with the
cam-corder. Which is what the "show" started off with - that video
tape. (Now a days, it would be on Youtube till the Feds stepped in,
but hey ... "Information wants to be free.")
When it was written, Newt Gingrich was speaker of the House and
considered by the Democrats to be an extremist. In this story,
Gingrich is now a "moderate Republican".
Point of the exercise: if another gun ban is enacted, their
Governmental violence is likely to be met with our citizen violence,
and there are still more of 'us' than 'them' (it doesn't take a
lot.). It doesn't have to be a repeat of the AWB, there will be a
tipping point of some nature, and someone will successfully "resist
tyranny" and serve as the catalyst. And a percentage of the populace
will consider themselves at war with the government, and will act
accordingly. I'm not saying that _all_ will take up arms, but right
now, on the bell curve, there are no serious numbers involved in
active activities against the government. But shift that bell curve a
fraction, and more of those who would have merely considered shooting
government agents, will now be in the "shooting government agents"
group. As more of those who hadn't thought about it, think about. As
more of those who supported the government become more "qualified" -
nunaced - in their support.
There is an old saying in political science: ten percent make it
happen, ten percent know what happened, and 80% wonder what happened.
It was so in 1776, 1688, 1936, 1793, 1917 and 1991.

And now all gun laws can be federal. All state gun laws that
conflict with federal regulations will become

You are missing the point. Many in here take the government's approach to
private ownership of firearms as how they will govern in other areas. As
shown to you before, the gun politics are a good indicator of an
administration in microcosm. By watching gun politics you see whether
the president and congress feel that most of the time the people can
govern themselves and need just some government involvement or do the
president and congress feel that you are just serfs and the government
must be the nanny and provider.
That explains it. They don't have one to keep their brains in,
and it got lost.
