The disarmament goals of anti-gun legislators in the US have been
confirmed after one was caught in an official recording saying they
needed legislation to “confiscate, confiscate, confiscate”.
The microphones were left on for a few moments after the end of a US
senate committee hearing last week, catching a number of Democrat
senators and staff discussing gun laws and gun owners.
“We needed a bill that was going to confiscate, confiscate,
confiscate,” says one, though it is not clear whether it was a senator
or staffer.
Another says gun owners “don’t care about the bad guys. All they want
to do is have their little guns and do whatever they want with them.”
The recording was exposed by the Association of New Jersey Rifle and
Pistol Clubs, an organisation that actively campaigns for gun rights
and is the NRA’s official association in the state.
“The discussion that was caught, apparently among several senators and
staff, is outrageous, and reveals legislators’ true view of gun
owners,” the ANJRPC said on its website.
“The discussion reveals absolute contempt for the Second Amendment and
those who exercise it, as well as complete ignorance of the fact that
gun rights organisations like ANJRPC have long advocated for clear and
specific legislation punishing criminals who misuse firearms, instead
of misguided legislation (like the bills currently being pushed by
Senate Democrats) that demonises hardware.”
The American gun lobby has been criticised for so strongly opposing
proposed gun-control legislation including universal background checks
for gun buyers, but lobbyists say that the desire of legislators to
confiscate guns from law-abiding citizens is forcing them to take a
tough stand.
Many point out that the only way to ensure universal background checks
happen is to have a registry of all firearms, and a registry would be
the first step in creating a situation where guns could be
confiscated.
They also argue that in such circumstances, only the law-abiding
people who had registered their firearms would be affected, not
criminals with unregistered guns.
Comments like “all they want to do is have their little guns and do
whatever they want with them” are being held up as signs of the anti-
gun lobby’s contempt for gun owners and the lack of understanding of
how seriously they take their firearms.
Scott Bach, president of the ANJRPC, described the Democrat senators’
legislative moves as “an extremist agenda that should not be moving”
and said he was “outraged” by the recording.
Senator Loretta Weinberg, who is pushing the gun-control laws, was
part of the recorded conversation, though was not the one to use the
word “confiscate”, and she has since denied having an agenda to
confiscate firearms.
In the recording, she says that while the pro-gun lobby wants to keep
guns away from the wrong people, “they don’t have any regulations to
do it”.

Let's see, some years ago I spoke to a reporter at a major daily
newspaper, this reporter had just had published a full page article
claiming that "research" had found most murders are committed by
licensed shooters using legally owned guns. I asked the reporter why
they
hadn't bothered to mention to their readers that the "research" they
were quoting was conducted by the founding President of an anti-gun
political lobby group and actually paid for by that lobby group. The
reply was "So what, there's only so much you can fit into twenty
paragraphs"
The largest number of complaints ever received by the Australian Press
Council happened when a major daily newspaper claimed that law abiding
gun owners were showing "joy" on the anniversary of the Port Arthur
Massacre.
Earlier this year, a major TV network current affairs program done a
segment on the increase in gun licences in Australia, whilst
broadcasting it they also broadcast background footage (from the US)
showing handguns being openly carried in public, and people using semi
and fully automatic weapons. No attempt was made by the broadcaster to
tell their viewers that this file footage was from the US and did not
relate to Australian laws.
And you're wondering why this hasn't been given any mainstream press
coverage.

This only confirms what we have known all along. What they try to disguise as "common sense gun laws" is nothing more than incremental steps toward gun banning. They know they can't get what they want all at once but they think if they take small bites at a time from our gun rights, they can get a majority to think they are just taking reasonable steps. That's why we needed to defeat the expanded background checks bill and why we need to continue to oppose any and all infringements on our RKBA, no matter how insignificant they might seem.
