LIMBAUGH SIGNS THROUGH 2016; $400 MILLION DEAL SHATTERS BROADCAST RECORDS
Wed Jul 02 2008 09:02:18 ET
In what is being described as an unprecedented radio contract, Limbaugh
will keep his syndicated show on-the-air and e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e through
2016 with CLEAR CHANNEL and PREMIERE RADIO.
Already host of the most lucrative hours since radio's inception,
Limbaugh's total package is valued north of $400 million, according to
media insiders.
In its controversial profile, the TIMES reports that Limbaugh is buying a
new G550 jet and is making an estimated $38 million a year.
Earnings now pace him ahead of the annual salaries for network news
anchors: Katie Couric, Brian Williams, Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer —
combined!

Use the excuse of anal cysts to avoid the draft and be a drug criminal and
addict and become a billionaire.
Don't forget the part about developing the most popular and influential talk
radio program of all time! That kinda' figures in there, don't you think?
While I disagree with Rush on practically everything, he is certainly
damn good at what he does.
If popularity meant quality, American Idol would be Masterpiece Theater.

Excellent point. But my previous post was intended to flesh out the sequence
of events started by the OP that would leave you to believe that the list of
negative acts in the life of Rush led to his becoming a billionaire.
Out of curiosity, can you name a couple of these major points that you
disagree with? I won't argue, I'm just curious. Nearly everyone I talk to in
person can't come up with anything. You have the luxury of time on your side
to do some thinking. Usually it comes down to something like, "I just think
he's an egomaniac".
It has everything to do with it.

I used to listen to Rush a lot before I got Satellite radio. I always
enjoyed the factual information and sources that his research people were
able to come up with. Some of his editorialized theories were a stretch. I
didn't much care for them, and I didn't like his attack on McCain, but he is
certainly entertaining and a good source for dirt on Democrats.

We could start with demonizing liberals. It is a mainstay of his
shtick. We can agree or disagree about liberalism vs conservatism, but
both sides think they are right in their beliefs. In this area I will
give Limbaugh credit, he does his demonizing in an entertaining fashion,
whereas Ann Coulter is just spiteful.
Then add in his adoration of all things Reagan. While Reagan certainly
did many things right, he certainly did just as many wrong. Some things
that could have led to impeachment (think Iran-Contra).
Add in that he believes that "I've got mine, screw you" is a valid
position...
if you listen to him, you should have noticed that his 'research' is
only done to prove his preconceived point. He virtually never finds
anything that disagrees with his position.
But he really only uses factoids, or incomplete facts. Or just BS he
pulls out of the air and purports to be fact.
I disagree. His extrapolation of the facts can get murky when he starts
editorializing, but he is rarely wrong on data. And as you said, he can be
entertaining.
And that is all that he is about in reality, hell he even admits it. He
has found that he can depend on a very small part of the population and
then feed them what they want to hear and they will lap it up. Doing it
with humor just makes it work better.
For all the talk about his influence, his audience is less than 3
million per day. No one actually knows how much of that audience is
those that believe what he spouts, listens for the humor, or just has
the radio on in the car for the noise.
Most of the time, I fit in the latter and don't pay much attention.
Occasionally he'll say something so outrageous that I'll start cussing
the radio... :)
Hey stupid. Limbaugh is a paid govt shill and this 400 mill comes out of
our tax dollars.
And don't forget the part about it not being necessary to maintain any
standards of truth, decency, honesty, or integrity in order to do so.
Indeed, the quicker you ditch any kind of morality, the more successful
you will be.

You could start with his characterization of the torture at Abu Ghraib
as nothing more than fraternity pranks.

You're one of those guys who thinks putting girl's underwear on a
terrorist's head for laughs is far far wore than cutting off someone's head
on video.
This is called selective outrage and there's something wrong with your moral
compass if all you can do is blame America for everything.
HA HA!
I love it when the Lefty's hate on Rush? I'm not his Biggest Fan,
But I love it when he wins and they go nuts?? LOL!

Most liberals harbor a great deal of hatred and anger, one of the main
reasons they fear anyone being armed, they are terrified it might be someone
like them.

There's certainly no comparison.

There's something wrong with your brain pan if you don't think that
what was done at Abu Gjraib was morally wrong. That's not blaming
America for everything...just the low life assholes that treated
another human like trash.
Idiot!
bk
We did worse than that at Boy Scout camps.
There is something lacking in your brain pan if you imagine that Chopping
off heads of innocent people on videos is the same as mistreating, NOT
TORTURING, but simply mistreating, some prisoners.
Naturally, whenever that distinction is brought up, the hollow-heads ignore
it and change the subject

OK, let's say the pictures of the raghead with panties on his head was
"wrong". Now where is your "moral outrage" at the pictures of U.S.
soldiers, after being captured by ragheads, WITH NO HEADS! Is that
"morally wrong" also?

Exactly. He focused on the unimportant misdeeds of clinton but gave him a
free ride on the serious stuff like waco, okc, and the sanctions in iraq
that even madeliene albright admitted killed 500,000 children!!
Oldest trick in the book. Avoid a big scandal by talking about a small one.
And you fell for it.

Hey stupid. He doesn't "earn" the money. He's a paid govt shill and it's
your tax dollars that pay him. You are really stupid.

I'm no lefty, you moron. I hate rush cause he's just a paid govt shill and
it's with our tax dollars that he's paid this crazy sum. Now, don't you
feel stupid.

Limbaugh is far more effective attacking Democrats
than.acting as apologist for George W. Bush.

He on many occasions reminds folks he IS an entertainer..
What is funny how many who say they hate him also say they listen.

Care to provide some examples ?
Umm, no, he didn't give Clinton a free ride on much of anything.
Nor has he dones so with any other politician.

So that's your "proof" ?
Pretty lame
I can think of a bail out scenario...
Rush could buy Air America....
Don't know. Did they ever pay back the Boys and Girls Club the
eight hundred thousand they were "loaned"?
Do I really expect them to?

So Madeline HalfBright admits to helping to kill 500,000 children. Where's the
moral outrage and quest for trials of the guilty parties?
Frank
You keep claiming this. At any point are you going to provide some evidence
for this besides the voices in your head?

So is Madonna.
Let's see. Global warming is a hoax. There are more trees on the North
American continent today than there were in 1492. Michael J Fox was
faking his Parkinson's symptoms when he videotaped a PSA. Liberalism
is a personality disorder. GW Bush is a great president. I could go
on.
So is Madonna.
Yeah, and even though Rush's boobs are probably bigger, Madonna's are no
doubt prettier.

OK.. that did it!
No more drinking Scotch when reading usenet posts, for me.
That stuff STINGS like hell when it comes outa yer nose.
There is more lumber in North America today. The trees disappeared

And the guys that chop off people's heads we can just ignore because 1) they
don't listen to people like you to begin with and 2) you can't really do
anything about them anyway so you 3) reserve all your outrage and energy for
the United States.
Interesting. Stupid yes, but interesting in a clinical sense.
I wonder how he's going to spin his answer? Of course he'll have to agree
with you, but he'll also make damned sure we both understand the bad guys
only do it because America forced them to it.
The old "hand in the pan of warm water" trick? Maybe they should try that
at Abu Ghraib.
And....
You would have seen the light!!!
Amen brother! Give me an Amen!

Finally, a couple of folks willing to put their money where their mouth is!
Bravo! I just wanted to hear something tangeable instead of what "feelings"
people were having.
And don't forget that most heinous of all abominable acts: SHORT-SHEETING!
Couldn't you just see the agony on Hadji's face if his bunk at Abu Ghraib
had been short-sheeted?
That's just one step short of toothpasting the guy while he sleeps. For
shame!
More like Bull Shit.
Dammit Felix, you are scaring me! I might get the SHAVING CREAM out if you
don't stop it!
Particularly if it was the sheet on his head....
Although, come to think about it, since they're already sort of brain-dead,
they can't really suffer any more brain damage from the process
We should make a video of us doing all this shit to some poor jihadi. We'd
get on al-Jazeera for sure, and they could use the tape to frighten inmates
at abu Ghraib. Then we could market it in the middle east like some faces of
death video ... we'll make lots of dinars or whatever they use for money.
In the vast majority of markets around the country, the #1 most listened-to
radio station garners less than a 10 share of the audience. In most top-25
markets, the #1 most listened-to radio station garners somewhere around a 5
share. Here in Atlanta, for example (the #11 market), the #1 station
usually gets around a 7 share. In Dallas/Fort Worth (the #5 market), the #1
station gets about a 4.5 share.
That means that even the most listened-to radio station in a given market IS
NOT HEARD by 90 percent (or more) of the listening audience.
Limbaugh is only #1 in a handful of markets. While his PR machine may claim
that he's #1 in more than a few markets, the truth is, that claim is mostly
false. He may be the #1 most listened-to TALKRADIO program during the time
period when he's on in some of those markets they take credit for, but in
many such cases, you'll find two or three (or a dozen or more) *music*
stations with larger listening audiences in the same daypart in which
Limbaugh competes.
While it may be a badge of honor for Limbaugh to win his daypart in some
markets, it's largely to to the signal on which his show is carried. To its
credit, Limbaugh's syndicator has done a masterful job at placing his show
on stations with huge, 50,000-watt AM stations, while many other AM talk
stations are found on 5,000 watt (or lower) stations whose signals do not
even cover their market.
(For the record, here in Atlanta, Limbaugh's show is carried on just such a
lower-wattage AM station with a less-than-stellar signal. Not surprisingly,
he barely registers a blip in the Atlanta radio ratings, despite Georgia
being one of the reddest states in the nation.)
So this 400-million dollar contract for Limbaugh is a reward for him
reaching the pinnacle of talkradio. And that pinnacle means he's NOT
listened to by upwards of 95 percent of all radio listeners.
Way to go, Rush. (Gotta admire someone who finds a way to get
out-of-this-world financial compensation for being irrelevant.)

began his

I hate Rush, too. And he most certainly is a water-carrier for the right.
But he's not paid with our tax dollars.
