Obamacare's Jobs Bonanza

With health care legislation likely to be passed within the next few weeks,
a new study claims that the bill will create hundreds of thousands of jobs a
year in addition to helping the uninsured find care. Economists from Harvard
and USC say that their research indicates that health care reform would
reduce health care costs in the long run enough to allow employers to hire
more workers. They anticipate that some 250,000 to 400,000 jobs a year would
be created in the next decade thanks to the savings. The report has plenty
of skeptics however, with the conservative Heritage Foundation predicting
450,000 jobs lost over the next decade if the bill passes as a result of new
taxes on wealthy Americans.
Read it at The Los Angeles Times

500K jobs will be paying taxes. The health delivery system needs
re-structuring. Skilled people should be working at their level and not
spending time doing unskilled work. More investment into government clinics
would be useful. Re-structuring the clinical trials process could save
billions on drug costs. Better utilization of expensive diagnostic testing
can save millions. The key to making health care affordable is
re-structuring and efficient utilization. Pass the bill and let's go.
Everyone knows by now Americans can not afford Limbaugh/Cheney health care.

Bullshit. Obamacare will ELIMINATE jobs - as the added taxes it
inflicts on the middle class (required health insurance) will be money
*not* spent on other things; count on small retail businesses such as
restaurants, beauty shops, car dealers, etc. being big losers.

How much longer are the righties going to continue with this lie? The
wealthy don't create jobs.

The funny part is that anyone thinks the govt will save money. Given
its history one must wonder where such confidence comes from.

Then who do you think creates jobs? Welfare recipients - whether slum
welfare mothers or General Motors?
The reality is that only the net productives can create jobs - and,
realistically, only the middle-class consumer with her Visa card
exists in sufficient numbers to do that.

So how many poor do you see creating jobs? I suppose Bill Gates didn't
create any jobs, right? I suppose the founders of Macintosh didn't
create any jobs, right? I suppose the founders of IBM, Ford, GM,
Chrysler, GE, RCA, 3M, Hewlett Packard, etc., etc., didn't create any
jobs, right?

This is true, *CONSUMER* demand creates the jobs. No "demand," no
"jobs." Evidence: our current recession/depression. Lots of money
(see: JP Morgan's bonus plans), but no jobs.

Obama's policy isn't "trickle up." Obama's policies are based on the
fact that the economy is driven by demand and those policies have been
an overwhelming success. The economy was at the precipice of the Second
Great Depression and because of Obama's policies, it has been pulled
back from that precipice. GDP was positive for the 3rd quarter of 2009
and it will be positive for the 4th quarter as well. The recession is

Yeah BOY!

When President Barack Obama was pitching his $787 billion economic
stimulus package, the White House produced a report claiming their
plan would keep unemployment under a peak of 8%.

Reality has not been kind to President Obamas promises. On November
6, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released their Employment Situation
Summary showing that the nations unemployment rate had soared from
9.8% to 10.2% in October. You can see how President Obamas promises
compare to reality to the right.

At that rate, I don't know how much more SUCCESS we can afford!

For the printers. It gives them job security for awhile.

Sales tax must be a real bitch where you live as your sentence doesn't
really make much sense.

To whom? You or the person who earned it? Actually, the top 5% pay most
of the income taxes anyway.

Yep, so are some without a healthy dose of greed....simply a desire to do
better.

However, much of it does.

Why would you think that anyone would hire people if they didn't require
them? Never run a business have you.

Whoever claimed that? I simply said that those who are well off own or
manage the businesses that do the hiring.

Oregon has no sales tax.
Alaska has no state sales tax but the municiplities may levy one.
Delware has none on retail sales but does have a gross reciepts tax.
A number of other states use such a means to hide a sales tax.

Sleep well tonight, RD (The Sandman)

Let's see if I have this healthcare thingy right. Congress is to pass
a plan written by a committee whose head has said he doesn't understand
it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it or allowed bipartisan input,
signed by a president who hasn't read it or provided the public with the
C-Span overview of the plan or the process, with funding administered by
a Treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes because he didn't understand
TurboTax, overseen by an obese Surgeon General and financed by a country
that's nearly broke. What could possibly go wrong?
