Interesting read. Everyone in this group knows a firearm / CCW who has act
as described in the above article.

I like his New Years resolution.

Some states - including here, North Carolina - either REQUIRE anyone
with a concealed weapons permit who's carrying to tell the cop, encode
it in their license file, or (here) both.

http://www.Internet-Gun-Show.com- your source for hard-to-find stuff!

The point (original intent) of the article was not to contrast state laws
(Such as NC laws, as you have pointed out.) The summary of the article can
be wrapped up in the 5th amendment: The right to KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT! If
it's concealed, and nobody legitimately knows about your concealed firearm,
then there's no reason to "confess" a possession of a firearm, right?

For those states that require CCW permit holders to reveal they are armed to
law enforcement -- I am in no way encouraging you to break your local (or
state) laws. For those of use who AREN'T bound by similar laws..... the
article is a reminder that the "right to remain SILENT" still applies!!!

Yes, but there are a couple of problems with what he is saying. In the
first place in Arizona, the officer knows when he walks up to your car
that you (or at least the car's owner) has a CCW. It is flashed in red
on his screen. Most officers prefer you to simply stop, place your car
in park and sit there with both hands on the wheel in plain sight. If at
night, place your dome light on. When the officer gets there, let them
know that you have a CCW and whether or not you are armed. Ask the
officer how he/she wishes to continue. They may ask you where the
firearm is located. Tell them. The bottom line is that you both wish to
be home at the end of the evening. It simply works better if the officer
is told you have a firearm and let him/her direct how the stop goes down
rather than to have a nervous cop see a flash of the gun and react
incorrectly.

Sleep well tonight,

Let's see if I have this healthcare thingy right. Congress is to pass
a plan written by a committee whose head has said he doesn't understand
it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it, signed by a president who
hasn't read it, with funding administered by a Treasury chief who didn't
pay his taxes because he didn't understand TurboTax, overseen by an obese
Surgeon General and financed by a country that's nearly broke.
What could possibly go wrong?

While yes, I don't want to be on the wrong end of a cop seeing the flash
of a gun and possibly reacting inappropriately. Much of it will depend
on what you are being stopped for. A broken taillight or because your
car matches the description of a stolen vehicle or one that was used in a
liquor store robbery a couple miles away.

Politely disagree.

If the LEO knows, fine, if the local law states you are required to notify,
fine. Outside of those two parameters, keep your mouth shut, answer the
questions politely and move on.

I do agree with your "The bottom line is that you both wish to be home at
the end of the evening." we just differ on the amount of information the LEO
needs to do his/her job.

The fifth applies in any case. We must constantly refresh the
awareness that laws violating our rights are *criminal* and, in
principle, do not have to be obeyed. That "government" would commit a
felony against you for not obeying an invalid law only demonstrates the
criminal nature of the state.

"The guys with the guns make the rules", eh Mr. Albrittle?

That's why we have the National Guard, that's what Article I, Section 8,
Clause 15 is about:

"Congress shall have power to provide for calling forth the Militia to
execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repell
Invasions..."

That provision is INCORPORATED in state constitutions; not against the
states, but concurrently with the states and the US Constitution. Same
with Art I Sedct 8 Cl 16 and the Second Amendment.

Your choice.....no problem.

I would agree but what I have there is from many officers and the
requirement to produce your CCW when asked for it. You will be asked if
you are carrying.....I have been in a couple of those stops. If you
reply yes, the officer will ask you where the gun is. I told him on my
right hip and asked how he wished to continue. I followed his (their)
instructions and at the end of the evening we both went home.

> I do agree with your "The bottom line is that you both wish to be home

Agreed. I just don't like surprizing the officer (and they don't like to
be surprized) during a stop. It is too easy for someone to overreact and
that invariably leads to downtime on the part of one or more.

I doubt that would get their votes. ;) By far, the majority of cops I
have come across have been good guys simply doing their duty. I have not
had the (dis)pleasure of running across the type of officer that seems to
be rampant in here.....at least according to the comments.

If you're going to quote, do it right.
"The guys wth the guns make the rules."
Wayne Lapierre

Oh... by all means... let's review constitutional law, the original bill
of rights, and the militia:
"the 2nd Amendment, ratified in 1787, allows the states to have a National
Guard - created by act of Congress in 1917"
http://www.bmstahoe.com/Libertarian/Guns/
While you're at it, you might want to read the rest of the page for the
above link.

You: "The guys wth the guns make the rules."

Try to spell the rightwing shrieks of Wayne LaPuke correctly, eh Mr.

The Bill of Rights was ratified in 1792 you fucking ignoramus. The
National Guard was so named by Congress, which has power to organize the
militia. See Art I Sect 8 Cl 16...

Your looneytarian source of information is as usual wrong.

POINT PROVEN!
