Subject: My latest published letter to the editor.
Open letter to Greg Rickford:
I would like to comment about your statement in the newspaper yesterday ".
. . eliminating the wasteful and ineffective $2 billion long-gun registry,"
stated Rickford. "This was one of our first priorities when we won our
majority Government last year. Promise made, promise kept".
As former vice-president of your riding association I know all too well that
you are aware of what the "promise" was to Canadians, and it had little to
do with the "long-gun registry" and much more to do with the licensing
aspect of Bill C-68 that unnecessarily criminalizes ordinary citizens of
this country.
I spent over 10 years of hard work getting you and the CPC party elected. I
did this because of the promise Preston Manning and then Stephan Harper made
to us.
"What should be the fate of a bad law? It should be repealed.' C-68 has
proven to be a bad law and has created a bureaucratic nightmare for both gun
owners and the government. As Leader of the Official Opposition, I will use
all the powers afforded to me as Leader and continue our party's fight to
repeal Bill C-68 and replace it with a firearms control system that is cost
effective and respects the rights of Canadians to own and use firearms
responsibly."
I feel betrayed by you and the CPC party in general because YOU AND THE CPC
DID NOT KEEP YOUR PROMISE!. I naively sacrificed my career, my possessions,
my home, my property plus a 1.5 year prison sentence based largely on your
"PROMISE". Your hollow words are nothing less than an insult to most
firearms owners and have caused very real damage to many people in this
country including me!
Sincerely,
Bruce Montague.
