It was "divinely" inspired by an "angel" according to muslims, but much more likely, it was made up by ignorant near-savages like the rest of the western or eastern religions.

It always fascinates me when people who ostensibly dislike
ignorance so happily substitute their ignorant views for
the ones they are repudiating. It's rather cute. Or maybe
it's a type of performance art.

Indeed, that seems to be the case, as much of the Quran seems to be
composed of badly remembered Bible verses and rehashed Jewish and
Christian mythology.

I would really like to know more about islam, but I am busy as a loyal
subject to the only God, Babalu aye.

Babalu aye, the Santeria God of Bantu Africa, is the only God who has a
song about him sung by Desi Arnaz (Ricky Ricardo) on the "I Love Lucy"
show.

Your's in Babalu's name,

No need:

"Kill or enslave all non-Muslims, and treat all women like
dirt" pretty well sums it up, at least WRT the Islamists who
get all the attention and do all the damage.

Maybe you should clean house (method optional) or direct
your posts to THEM.

Well, since it derived from early Christianity (the same as
Christianity derived from Judaism) that's hardly surprising.

Funny thing about these Islamic proselytization threads is that they are
rarely replied to on the Mac newsgroups. Just sayin'.

I have no idea how they think they will recruit us as converts by
annoying us with spam. At least the JWs make the intense physical effort
to canvas neighborhoods.

Cuba has a thing for San Lazaro:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lazarus_of_Bethany#Lazarus_as_Babalu_Aye_in_Santer.C3.ADa

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babalu_Aye#Manifestations_in_African_diaspora_traditions

Much like the Black Jesus (or iconic Black Last Supper), San Lazaro is
Africanized. That's kinda cool. Shows how religion hybridizes, where the
African and Catholic elements merge.

I've been seeing thread titles in what looks like Arabic script in
comp.sys.mac... forums. Not sure if same person, but Islamic
proselytization spam shows up there too, interrupting heartfelt
testimonials to the greatest operating system ever based on Unix, praise
be upon it :-)

There was some syncretism with previously established Arabic cultural
traditions no? Islam didn't arise out of a vacuum.

My ancestors enjoyed a good Jul. As has been discussed on this thread
people of African descent have syncretized their traditions into
Christianity in Latin America in places like Cuba and Brasil.

Google Translate can be a help with posts like that. I don't usually
bother, but occasionally I check. The last one proved to be about
Egyptian concrete or some such thing -- no mention of Islam, etc.

Sure; that's characteristic of all religions AFAIK,
including early Christianity.

Absolutely not! Islam owes a great deal of its character to its pagan

They did do an edit job though, and ended up with something
that's only a small fraction of the size of the Bible.

Or more likely, they never knew about the rest,
