Before Hitler, anti-Semites had attacked Jews verbally or physically because of their religious differences from Christians. Hitler's anti-Semitism identified the Jews as a race. This identification of course has no basis in science, because modern Jews are composed of several different national and racial stocks. To talk about the Jewish "race" is as absurd as talking about the Catholic "race" or the American "race."
