Those like me who have heard only vague statements about how Shariah Law
functions may be interested in this 38 minute interview:

Today's (Tuesday, Apr. 17) New York Times has a review of the book
Heaven on Earth: A Journey Through Shari’a Law From the Deserts
of Ancient Arabia to the Streets of the Modern Muslim World
Sadakat Kadri, 372 pages. Farrar, Straus & Giroux. $28.

Having listened to the talk with him, I have no doubt that Kadri will be
extremely disappointed with the time's review.

I, too, both heard the original NPR interview with Kadri and felt the
same disappointment with the review. A much better presentation of
one aspect of the issue is Kadri's comment on Shari'a law in the
London Review of Books

Why would that be? I've read the Times review. I thought it presented
point of view that true Sharia law wasn't at all the demon it is thought
to be in the West.

Yes. Given the interview, I'd be surprised if he weren't very
disappointed with the NYT review. I haven't read the book, though, so
it's possible that the review is fair.
