Are you aware that you've touched on a classic fairy tale? An ogre/
evil magician/ troll (or something) casts a spell that keeps him alive
forever- or at least as long as his heart lives. The trick, of course,
is that he takes his heart out of his body and hides it somewhere.
Mitt's is probably in a vault in the Cayman Islands.

It's a recurring theme in lots of fantasy novels.
