What happened to pinatas John McCoy (McNameless, whatever), and Pags?
Of course we are. What we haven't divulged up until now is that your
wife is too. (Nice act she put on, though, huh?)

In the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant (S.R. Donaldson) there's a
character of devastating force who comes and annihilates the speaker
of his name (no, I won't speak it here). Absent the devastating part,
I tend to avoid mention of P*g*n* lest he come and annoy us all
interminably.

looking, I tried to get something to happen. No dice. I figured
contracting leprosy would be too far to go to test the thing.

Well, McClueless (as he came to be known more and more, was issued

Howard's Hershey stood up, but the duty nurse at The Home

McNameless has taken up permanent residence in my sigfile.
Tony declared victory (for what, the 57th time?) and ran
away again several weeks ago. Expect him back when his
long-term memory fades. Again.

Fifty-seven? Heck, he claimed victory over me at least a couple dozen
times. That was a couple years ago.

Good to know nothing has changed.

Well, it seemed like a reasonable number; I didn't want to
use "googleplex", which is probably closer to the actuality.

Nope. "All of this has happened before. All of this will

I would agree that he has a 'plex of some sort.
Only fools and geniuses are that self-confident.
FWIW, I was told once that I was HH. Now can someone clue me into the
joke.

I think Spin and Maddie (as opposed to Spin and Marty) chased them
away. Ray and (intermittently) Sean are the only one left who actually
participate.
Y'mean he's not helping Ray finish his paper?

Nah!
That paper is a myth, there is more evidence for a world wide flood
than for Dishonest Ray's paper.

I think you just dated yourself... ;-)
But Spin and Marty were *much* more intelligent and
articulate than Spinnie and Maddie (or, as I prefer,
"Addled").
Did you also watch Clarabell squirt his seltzer bottle?

Almost. Read on.

Sorry to go so OT, but my "fascination with the past in general" is
tied to my fascination with evolution. Anyway, I had a Howdy Doody
"Golden Book" from '57-58 to '60-61, and had lost it for about a year
in between. People told me that there was also a TV show, but I never
got around to watching it. One day, possibly soon after finding the
lost book and almost having forgetten about it, I asked a childhood
friend (I forget who, but remember where I was at the time) when the
show was on TV, and he/she said that it went off the air just a few
days ago. That had to be Sept. '60. Almost 6, I soon moved on to more
interesting books and TV.
I only remember Spin & Marty from reruns in '65-'66 when UHF TV
brought back old shows, including Superman and Mickey Mouse, which I
did watch before they went off the air (as I later found out) in '58
and '59, respectively. I remember almost no details from the original
runs, and there too, I had almost forgotten watching them.
Well, I watched all of these (and more) in the original
runs; apparently I'm a few years older than you (born '45).

I was born in '48, and I remember all those other shows also.
Saturday mornings were all kids shows where I lived. Cartoons,
real cartoons that is. Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, Daffy Duck, and
all those, not the dramatizations they have now. Other shows such
as Flicka, Sky King, and others, all done with real actors. But
with fake bullets and six shooters that never needed reloading.

And Hopalong Cassidy, and the Cisco Kid, and Circle 4
Theater (DC area only, probably), and the original I Love
Lucy, and My Little Margie, and Lash LaRue and Whip Wilson
at the movies, and...
Ah, for the Good Old Days (TM)... ;-)
There were a lot of bad shows on during that time, but, IMHO,
kids programming was better than today, in many ways. One of
the things that helped tv get its start was the fact that many
of the shows were built around one or 2 stars, and those stars
were well known. And the programs worked around their strengths.
From Lucy to Hopalong Cassidy, including Roy Rogers, Dale Evans,
and so on. Today they try to create shows and then bring in a name
to star in it. Often times creating poor tv shows, so they networks
take the easy way out and go with so called reality shows.
Along with the fun shows of the 50's they also had some good programming
featuring Broadway plays, and top knotch live dramas.
All true. What they *didn't* have was a need to fill the
airtime on 500+ channels.
