Well, he's not a real monkey, but this clever person wouldn't feel
offended for being called a "monkey" when he's looking for a better
metaphor for the sheep, I mean for the Christians... ;)

I just that don't to be called a pig.

(I quote)

Why are Christians characterised as sheep?

The image of the good shepherd and the flock is very old, it is common
in the catacombs of Rome and dates back to the first century. Why
sheep? They are the amongst the most stupid of domesticated animals
known for blindly following. Did Jesus characterise himself as the
good shepherd and his flock? If so he seems to be cynically mocking
the people that follow him. If he needed a domestic animal to create a
metaphor he had the choice of many (eg camels, goats, horses). The
Gaderine Swine story shows that Jesus was familiar with pigs, much
more intelligent animals (smarter then dogs). Why didn't he use the
methaphor the good swineherd and his church a herd of swine? Regarding
his followers as sheep Jesus seems to be acting as a cynical conman.
Of course he was executed as a criminal and his own people the Jews,
wrote in writings contemporanious with the gospels that he was a "
bastard heretic sorcerer" and this is why he got the chop. Don't
Christians mind being sheep?

In part it comes from the allegory created long after his death that
he was "teh Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the World" through
his sacrifice. Most of the Gospels disagree somewhat on this notion,
however, as in Mark, for example, Jesus shares a Passover meal with
his disciples and could not possibly have been executed earlier that
afternoon with the slaughter of the Passover lambs. Of course Jesus
could do anything, but somebody would probably have mentioned it.

Why not pigs? Are you serious? Hint: Jesus was Jewish. Maybe you
were being snide.

But why sheep? One of the founding episodes of Judaism is the story
of Abraham committing one of the most unthinkable sins simply because
God ordered him to. For proceeding with the sacrifice of his own son,
God declared Abraham worthy of leading God's chosen people. In other
words, YHWH likes sheep who follow orders no matter how good or
depraved they are. And sometimes they are very very depraved.

He was supposed to be Jewish and even the Greeks knew enough to know
that a Jewish guy who did that had to be phony.

I certainly understand why Jesus (as a Jew) did not use swineherd
analogies.
But given the ability of Christians to sect themselves off and engage
in internecine
battles, might I suggest cats would have been a better analogy?
