Those magic beans called 'ethanol'

"It's hard to believe ethanol is getting "clobbered the way it's
getting clobbered right now" over something as insignificant as some
starving Africans, says longtime champion Sen. Charles Grassley, R-
Iowa."

"Everyone knew all along it takes 1,700 gallons of water and 51 cents
in tax credits to create one gallon of ethanol from corn -- at which
point the stuff still can't compete without a 54-cents-a-gallon tariff
to block the importation of cheaper sugar-cane ethanol from Brazil."

For sure we should be buying ethanol from Brazil or whoever has it for sale
with little tariff. We should also reduce the tax credits to produce ethanol
here. It must stand alone if it stands at all. Government investment should
go to R & D to develop new alternatives like algal oil and cellulostic
ethanol. Those investments should be reduced as product pays it way. And,
Government subsidies and tax credits to the oil companies should also end.

As far as Africa is concerned, there is absolutely NO connection between
corn and corn ethanol and starving Africans or Rice poor Asians. That's a
god damn red herring invented by the anti American self sufficiency crowd
who want to see the US dependent on foreign energy. Follow the money...A
$Billion a day to OPEC. What are their interests? Only a fool would believe
it's about starving Africans who don't even eat our corn. BTW starvation in
Africa has more to do with inept, corrupt governments, ethnic cleansing and
civil war than anything the US does or doesn't do. They are always starving
in Africa, 50 years ago they were starving!

I guess that's why AmeriKKKa is such a supporter of the stuff.

Ethanol is a poison. Drinking it in quantity as Jim E appears to do is
about as bright as huffing gasoline.
