Their answer wasn't on topic (it merely pointed out that "christians" liken
atheists to the devil.
Why, then, are they so afraid?
Honest, thought provoking, answers would be appreciated.

And that is an honest repsonse.
It can be countered, of course, by anyone capable of proving that ANY god
exists

They're afraid they're wrong
Yes, but it doesn't answer the question.
***Do you think that the mere existance of atheist/atheism is peceved as
such a threat to their belief system, that they must "eliminate Us, before
we eliminate them"?
***I know their garbage is based on lies and fraudulent propaganda. I have
seen absolutely NO evidence that there is an organized effort by any
atheist(s) to actually get rid of religion.
*** So - apparently they created the "demon ghost" that they are araid of.
*** BTW ... whille thinking about this ........ there is nothing wrong with
having an "atheist regime" or nation.
Most of the world seems to act as though religion is as necessary as food
and water - and that every person, and, at the least, every nation MUST have
at least one religious sect.
Maybe just the existance of atheist shows that deluded fabrication as
nothing more than biased ignorance in action.
They are afraid of discovering that they wasted their lives instead of
living it serenely.
Personally I don't think they gave it that much thought.
It would, IMHO, be just like the Jew hating fanatic who shot up the
Holocaust Museum.
Actual "thinking" was not his strong point ............ hatred was more
likely.

Groan, you seem to be one of those who put 'types' into boxes and treat them
all the same.
You may just as well ask 'are there more people within Christianity who pander
to superstition' ? The answer is impossible since there is no availalbe
accurate data
Come back when you have something positive to ask about.
I'm guessing the fearful fall into two classes. In the most severe
case, it's a spiritual fear that the devil is working through
atheists, and it borderlines on genuine fear, like fear of the night,
fear of deadly animals, etc.
For the other group, which I think is the larger group, it's a typical
case of Us vs. Them. For these, I think their biggest fear is that
atheists are a threat to their way of life. Just like gays are a
threat to marriage, illegal aliens are a threat to the way of life of
natives, people of other cultures, languages, colors, religions, etc,
are a "threat" to the way of life of the present culture, language,
color, religion, etc.
