Not all hyperlocal community publishers are journalists and therefore
some of the members of that profession present at #TAL10 might like to
share their methods, daily practise and experience of collecting news?

I have found the e-book on "Hyperlocal Newsgathering" by multi-media
journalist @AdamWestbrook extremely useful. But there is so much more
to learn!

I use my eyes, ears and ability to walk around my local area to full
advantage to unearth local 'news' stories of interest to my local
communities - in this regard I have one-up on any journalist from
outside the area, but it would be tremendous to begin to discover the
craft of journalism from those who practise it!

Anybody wish to lead a session on this?

I would be interested in a session on this too.

I'd be happy to get involved with leading a session on this. I'm now
doing a hyperlocal site but have spent many years a journalist. I'm
all better now, though.

Happy to pitch in and give some ideas for newsgathering.

Great idea, and it's pertinent for me to mention that Adam's e-book is
undergoing some significant improvements with the help of another
journalist and hyperlocal blogger, Andrew Brightwell as well as myself
(of The Lichfield Blog) with the aim of making it much more focused to
the hyperlocal site owner and including things like case studies from
existing hyperlocals so you can learn from others. The best way to
keep up to date with the improvements is to subscribe to the Journal
Local blog (http://journallocal.co.uk) where any announcements will be
made first.
