DON'T FORGET THE "WHY" -- Joshua 22:5 NIV

 

"But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you: to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, to obey His commands, to hold fast to Him and to serve Him with all your heart and all your soul."

 

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in what we are doing for God that we forget why we are doing it.  Sometimes we make the “what” more important than the “why.”  Apparently, the people of Israel had the same problem.  So Joshua was reminding them of why they were being obedient… because they loved Him.

 

That's why you and I are obedient.  That's why we follow God's commandments.  That's why we minister to others.  That's why we study God's word.  That’s why we pray.  That’s why we sing in the choir at church or teach Sunday school.  That's why we do everything we do.  Not because it's going to get us somewhere… Not because it's going to get us to heaven… Not because it's going to influence God in our favor financially or socially or in any other way… 

 

We do what we do because we love Him… because we love Him. 

 

That's the only "why" any of us ever needs.
