Dear Friends,

First, thank you all for your notes of well wishes and your prayers. I’ve tried to answer as many as I can today, but I’m “all typed out”… so if I didn’t get to answer your note, please forgive me… my hands are about to collapse!

We saw the Physician’s Assistant at our doctor’s office this morning after a 2 hour wait (they were “working him in”). It turns out I’m a great diagnostician, because J.R. does have Bell’s Palsy. He also has a mild infection in the outer ear canal in his left ear, which is the source of the pain he’s been having. She gave J.R. a prescription for drops for his ear, a steroid injection, and a steroid “pac” – one of those series of medication that you take less and less every day until you run out. That’s the only treatment they have for it. The good news is that his left eye should be able to close within a week, but the rest may last four to six weeks. He’s pretty miserable, but handling it pretty well.

Please keep him in your prayers – especially for a quick healing. Bell’s Palsy usually goes away as suddenly as it starts. I’ve heard of people having all symptoms gone within two weeks, but the estimate she gave us today was 4 to 6 weeks. I pray it’s not that long!

MAKING IT -- Judges 6:11 NIV

The angel of the LORD came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites.

The Israelites were really in a mess - nothing unusual if you look at the history of the people, but still, in a mess. The Midianites had come against them and forced them to live in the mountains, in caves, and anywhere else they could hide. Each year, as the harvest was ready, the Midianites and the Amalekites would come and destroy all the crops before the Israelites could harvest them, leaving the people to starve. On the day the Lord appeared to Gideon, he was beating wheat in the winepress, trying to save a little of the harvest for food before the Midianites found it. But what little he could hide would never be enough to feed his family for a year. The situation was hopeless.

But praise the Lord! He specializes in turning hopeless situations into miracles! He knew what was going on. He came and called Gideon to deliver the people. And it happened, just like God said it would.

He will do the same with your hopeless situation. If you place all your trust in Him, He will do it. He may not do it just exactly like you think He should. But He will do it.

Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.

Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will do this:

He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn,
the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.

Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;
