KEEPING HIS PROMISES -- Joshua 21:45 NIV

 

"Not one of all the Lord's good promises to the house of Israel failed; every one was fulfilled."

 

The Lord had made a number of promises to the people of Israel about the Promised Land.  Now, each and every one of those promises had been fulfilled.  It had taken quite a while, but God had stood by His word.  He had kept His promises.

 

God isn't like you and me.  He keeps His promises.  We break ours.  He is faithful.  We are not.  He stands by His word.  And we... we do only what is convenient at the time.  You promise to go fishing with your son, but you had to go to the office.  You promise to be at that church committee meeting on Wednesday night, but you get home from work and are just too tired.  You promise to spend more time with your family, but it's just easier to turn on the TV.  You promise to catch up with your work, but you just have too many interruptions.  You promise to start having a regular Bible study with your family, but too many other things get in the way.

 

God has made a number of promises to you and me.  Some of them already have been fulfilled.  Some of them are being fulfilled daily.  Throughout the Bible, we can find the promises of God.  And, many of those that have been fulfilled are recorded in scripture.  Others have been fulfilled after the writing of the Bible, pure evidence that God continues to fulfill His promises today.  Some of them are fulfilled in our lives each and every day.  And our future holds a whole list of promises that God will fulfill.  He keeps His word.  He is faithful.  The more we learn about the His promises and how He has fulfilled them, the greater the hope that grows in us for the ones He will fulfill in the future.

 

Praise God that He is who He is.  Praise the Lord that He isn't like you and me.  Thank Him today for His many promises and for His faithfulness to fulfill them.
