GETTING TO KNOW HIM -- Exodus 3:1-10

Exodus 3:1-10 NIV

The first thing God did after Moses responded to Him was to tell Moses to take off his shoes because he was standing on holy ground.  God wanted Moses to know His nature, even before He told him who He was.  He demanded reverence for who He is and what He has done.

God wants us, too, to know His nature.  He wants us to know everything we can about Him.  But His nature is so vast, so magnificent, so awesome, it takes a commitment and a lot of effort on our part to really get to know Him.  If you want to learn to be a dentist, you study dentistry.  If you want to learn to be an actor, you study acting.  If you want to be an attorney, you study the law.  If you want to be a welder, you study welding and metallurgy.  If you want to learn to be a better Christian, you study the Word.  It's that simple.  There is no better way to get to know who God is and what He expects of us than through the Bible.  That's why God put so much effort and energy into not only transmitting His Word to those who would write it down, but then to preserving it intact, so we could all know His truth.

If regular study of the Word is a part of your life, your life will be richly blessed.  Every time you study, you will see some new and wonderful part of God's nature.  And, just as getting to know another person better makes your relationship stronger, so getting to know God better strengthens the most important relationship in your life.  You will come to understand His Holiness, and what it really means.  And you will find a new reverence for Him and who He is.  Remember, His holiness was so awesome to Moses, that Moses hid his face, fearing to look at Him.

"Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them, 'You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy."  Leviticus 19:2 NIV

“All Scripture is Godbreathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”  2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV

“Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”  Joshua 1:8 NIV
