Hi everyone,

Happy to tell you that we're getting close to finishing work on Tagtool Touch, the new multiplayer, multitouch version of Tagtool for the iPad.

Here's the post telling the story so far: http://www.tagtool.org/wp/2012/05/10/tagtool-touch/

It's been a lot of work and an incredibly interesting ride so far. There's still a lot of work to do but we have overcome the biggest development obstacles. We're really happy with the results so far - it's a whole new level.

If you like what you see, please help us spread the word!

Best wishes,

Maki

Hey Ricardo,

good to hear from you!

I was just thinking of a kind of limited beta testing phase. I'll post something here know as soon as we figured out the logistics!

take care,

Maki

I posted this in a comment on the blog, but then remembered this Google Group, so sorry in advance for the crosspostage, but is there any chance that a hybrid system of drawing on a laptop with a Wacom tablet and a tagtool controller, and animating via an iPad (maybe networked to the laptop adhoc via wifi?) will be considered? I think the finger-painting idea is great for kids and invites participation, but for more precise control, surely a tablet-based approach for the drawing part is better?

Hi Scott, well then I'll cross-post too :)

We are definitely thinking of a hybrid system. First the iPad version as an accessible, mobile all-round solution. Then the laptop version for more demanding artists (who need the pressure sensitivity and precision of the Wacom) and the DIY heads. Both versions will be able to join the same multiplayer session, so it will possible to use the iPad as an advanced animation controller with the old school setup. But right now we are obviously still totally focused on step 1.

All that said, in the last weeks the iPad version has been really coming together, and I have to say it's definitely a mobile artistic tool in its own right! A whole new ball game. We're learning and exploring the feel of the new workflow ourselves right now.

best wishes,

Maki

That sounds great, Maki! Good to know that you aren't completely set on an iPad-only solution going forward; I understand, however, that the development needs of getting the new version on Tagtool running on the iPad, and working out any technical issues regarding session server/client, are the first and most necessary steps in the process. But, I'll look forward to the day when Tagtool old and new can play together in harmony :)

Cheers!

-Scott
