People have different reasons for doing what they they are doing, but I (as if it matters) have a lot of respect for this whole systems philosophy/science/engineering thing. Other people's work in the field(s) is at the same time an opportunity and an obstacle. Any disagreement with for instance continental philosophy and existentialism (it's identical with scientists and engineers doing their hard work and leaving to mere mortals rich legacies and biographies) might be perceived as arrogance and disrespect rather than an honest effort to join those disciplines (philosophy, science, and engineering) into a single reality.
