I have an older AMD 486 133MHz system running Windows 95 with the
Plus pack and several of the Microsoft OS patches installed. When I
try and run Disk Doctor my boot disk goes into an infinate loop of
spinning up and clicking. This happens 100% of the time, effectivly
locking up my system. This seems to happen in the early stages of
starting up Disk Doctor since I never get to a Disk Doctor menu.
I recently swapped out my boot disk for a larger disk and did a
complete OS reload and it still acts the same. I have used the live
update so I should have the latest version of the Disk Doctor
software.
I have two disks in my system, both Western Digital Caviar disks, the
boot disk is 340 Meg and the other one is 1.2 Gig. I originally had
a WD 170 Meg Caviar drive as the boot drive and experienced the same
symptoms.
Other then Disk Doctor all other parts of the Norton Utilities
package seem to be working.

Try running NDD from DOS and post to say if the same results
are occurring. Shut down the pc and choose restart in MSDOS mode at
the prompt type NDD and enter choose to diagnose disk. Post the
results please.
Hope this helps!

Hello Bill,
If you can run NDD from DOS, but not in Windows, that tells us
something that is loading in Windows is causing the problem, as
opposed to it be some kind of error or configuration problem with the
drive. To narrow down exactly what it might be, try performing a Clean
Boot, one step at a time. This will allow you to at least track the
culprit down, once this is done, we will have a better idea of what
the next step will be. You will find the instructions for Clean Boot
on our Knowledge Base at:

Good Luck, and thanks for writing!
