I go to view, select the group, edit, select the contact on the
right, click remove, the hard disk whirrs, the contact disappears on
the right, I click OK (there is no "Close" to click, which is what
the instructions say). However, the next time I open the group, the
contact is still there. If I go to the contact, it shows she is not
in a group. How do I permanently get the contact out of a group?
Hello Ann,
You can use the steps below to remove contacts from a group.
1. Go to VIEW, GROUPS.
2. Select the Group on the left side of the window.
3. Go to GROUP, GROUP MEMBERSHIP.
4. Select the Member on the right hand side of the window and then
click "Remove".
5. Click "OK" when finished removing the members of the group.
6. Go to VIEW, CONTACTS.
That will put you back in the Contacts view. The contacts that you
removed from the group should no longer be part of the group.
If you still have problems, I would recommend that you Compress and
Reindex the database. Back up your database and follow these steps to
delete index files and reindex your database:
1. Right-click on the Windows Start button and select Explore.
2. Click on the \ACT folder.
3. Double click the file ACTDIAG.EXE. The ACT! Data Diagnostic Tool
window appears.
4. Select Remove Index Files from the Options menu.
5. Locate the folder that contains your ACT! database, highlight the
problem database, and click OK. Click Yes at the prompt verifying
whether you want to delete the index files. Then click OK at the
prompt that indicates the files have been removed.
6. Launch ACT! in the normal manner and open the database.
7. Click Yes when the following error message is displayed: "An error
occurred while opening this database. It may be damaged, or missing a
component. Do you want to try to restore the database?"
8. ACT! will compress and reindex your database.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
