I am currently running Windows XP Pro SP1 with all security patches and updates minus SP2. I am using Eudora 6.2.1.2 in paid mode. I am also running Norton Internet Security 2005 with all the updates...herin lies the problem I believe. I have been using Eudora since 2.0, and generally have been pleased, however today I did a check on updates for Norton and found one "Program Update" about 500k in size, did not see a name for it or if I did forgot what it was called. I rebooted as instructed, no problems there. Then later tried to send and or recieve email. All that happens is I get a "Logging into pop server" and thats it...except the error message "Eudora got tired of waiting for the server 10100". Now if I close Eudora, disable Norton, then open Eudora I can send and recieve normally. I have tried all the suggestions that I found in the forums at Eudora's web site with no luck. This verison of Norton was just installed about a month ago and I did do all of the updates then. My guess is that this is a completely new bug "FEATURE" In Norton. Any suggestions?
Same here! I ran the Norton Internet Security 2005 update on Sunday evening and I can only get my Gmail. All my other POP mail accounts are blocked by the firewall. If I suspend the firewall (for 5 minutes), there is no problem.
FYI I use Win XP (Home) SP2, Outlook 2003, with Norton Anti-Spam disabled.

OK got bad news and great news. I too had the shutdown problem that I did not realize until you mentioned it and I tried it. Thast the bad news. The great news is that after an hour on the phone with Symantec they came up with a soltuion. Here is what I did...this solved both the email and shutdown error.
1. Go to Personal Firewall and click on configure 2. Under programs clear EVERY program under manual configure 3. Next use program scan and scan JUST the drive with the OS and programs 4. After the scan is complete check ALL programs it finds 5. Then check all programs and choose allow 6. Reboot and you should be in business
The only annoying bit is that you may have tomanually tweak some programs to disallow them if you so choose, and NIS thinks it is brand new so it will configure everything all over agin by asking you what to do for each prgram.
Hope this helps

Several people have had the same problem since the last updates. Most have solved it by resetting the rules or deteting them and creating new rules. Check the messages posted here over the past couple days and you'll see the procedure mentioned.
