Hi,

Just to let everyone know I just moderated a posting by a recruiter
advertising a candidate looking for a job. The post was clearly marked
as such but I felt the vast majority of the list are not employers and
I don't want to risk alienating those already annoyed by the high
proportion of job ads.

If anyone feels I should be letting these through then please let me
know.

This means we're currently allowing
- job postings by recruiters or employers as long as they have [job]
in the title
- candidate postings by actual candidates as long as they have [job
wanted] or [candidate] in the title.

I would like to start our company called "Python IT Recruitment". Would you like to help set it up?

Hi,

I didn't get any feedback either way from anyone, however the
recruiter has pointed out that a previous post of his for a candidate
did him several enquiries from employers and he did place the
candidate as a consequence of that. I think therefore it is useful to
allow these posts but again, if anyone has any objection please tell me.
At the moment it seems I'm the one spamming the list more than any
recruiters :)

Hi Dylan,

The thing I don't understand is why the candidate doesn't email the
list themselves directly?

Owen.

presumably because he doesn't know about the list. I'd rather he
joined the list himself but that's not up to us.

I would like to weigh in here, long time lurker, first time poster, but I will say what most of us are thinking:

Recruiters are Evil.
Who needs them when email and initiative are free? Tell them their candidate is welcome they are not.

I think it's useful having both, recruiters and candidates in the mailing list.
However I think this kind of e-mail can be annoying for many users, so I would say that all the email must be tagged according to a format so the people can easily setup email filters.
Of course, spam and flooding is never welcome :)

I'm not so sure everyone shares the same opinion. Many go direct but
also many people use recruiters to find them jobs or to find them new
employees. There is a cost involved which for many it seems worth it
to pay.
So personal opinions aside is there anything lost by allowing both
individuals and recruiters to ask if anyone is looking for a job
(assuming the emails are tagged)?

If the recruiter emails are of the same quality as the individuals, I
don't think anything is lost.

Owen.
