If Ada wakes up in time we're going to meet at the space and then do some testing...
Looking forward to it :-D
I'll be having a wisdom tooth out today, so I need a treat to take my mind off it.

Even if you aren't interested in flying, I know Frank (the hacker, not the singer) at least is interested in how the servos and the Tx/Rx stuff works, and how it can be used with micro controllers and other projects, on Saturday morning there should be a few people putting finishing touches on their birds!I just got back from flying my $5 scratch built plane(that I rebuilt after Mondays tragedy) and it's great! while not as easy as a good foam trainer it flies (relatively) straight and isn't going to upset too many people if you bury it in the ground so if you are too worried about the impending doom of learning to fly this one is for you!! If you prefer the "true hacker spirit" of building your own plane, it's easy and only takes a few hours the first time. You can buy enough components for it from the Australian warehouse for around $60, including the transmitter, and if you don't like flying then the gear is always useful for robotics and other hacking projects.Attached is some terrible footage of the coroplast plane flying tonight :) I am planning to make a bigger wing for it over the weekend to make it a little more stable and fly a bit slower so it should be great for learners!Tim.--

Looking forward to a drugged up Gav controlling a plane.
Should be even more spectacular than a sober Gav controlling an experimental plane with no real elevator control.
I'll wear a helmet this time...

It's ok Jason, James McGill grabbed a wilga after much deliberation online, I think it will make a great first plane. We will make sure to grab some carbon rods before you fly to spec it up. Have a look at the reviews on the international warehouse model, they are great (and sold out)
Did you get a some batteries for it? And a transmitter?
I can't wait to see the plane, I think they look real nice on the website. The ailerons are a little trickier but I think we'll set some transmitters up on a trainer mode for any new people who are worried.
I hope the weather is good!
Tim.
Yep, I think we'll meet early at the flying field for all those who already have their plane set up, and then hit the space for a few hours and build/re-build and then back to the field after lunch to try again!
That seemed to work yesterday, hopefully the weather is as good next weekend.
Tim
Yep. Is 330 late enough? That would give us ~90 standard earth minutes.
Will we have another Tuesday hack day? If people can set up their new planes Tuesday then they can meet us at the park at 9 am for round 1! I think I will have art last 1 plane I will use as a trainer/sacrifice for people to try before using their new planes.
(maybe a Thursday hack day is preferable if a planes are running late? )
I think it would be unfair to try to assemble planes on Wednesday because the robot builders are getting ready for supernova and there won't be enough space
Tim.

What about my "dodgy quad":Looks good, doesn't it!?
Btw, for those interested, I'm going to try to keep a build-log on http://nanibox.com/category/quad/

I will have my big quadcopter flying on Saturday and don't have a GoPro to put on it. Anyone want to loan one?It can stay in the waterproof case for safety and I plan on building long landing gear with a camera mount below the quad on friday so it should be well protected.
Video of the gathering from the air would be a great use for that GoPro you may have gathering dust in the corner!

Thursday night construction sounds like a pretty solid plan, I'll open be there from just after 5 to open the space. And 3:30 afternoon flight on Sat (w/ 9am early bird options) sounds like a good idea too.I've just got the PDF with the build instructions for this:Which looks cool. Think I'll try cutting one and giving it a try. Also, I'll have some radio controllable LED headlights done at some point, and happy to set people up with the code for night flying :-D

I think there might be some show and play! Just so you know, winter is often a better time to fly (real) planes than summer.

The Quickie Burt Special has a new front/bottom fuse, and a new top/rear fuse (thanks max!). I just need a way of attaching the two together now. The Mig has gone home - too pretty to crash. The cub is getting giant flaperons today. I think the 172 is ready, and the O-1 had its tail reglued but my new motor mount for it arrived today! It, on the other hand, is getting giant elevator and rudder.
I need to turn into a tim style builder.
Welcome shadow-dweller!
Weather permitting we will be a george kendall riverside park at 9 am.
We will meet where that basketball court is, best place to park is Gregory St.
Look forward to meeting you!

Hi Robots and Dinosaur crew.
I have been reading this gmail group for about a month and would like
to finally come down and meet yahs in the flesh like. My geeky brother

could become regular to your posse. :D
Where is this flying field so I can come down on Saturday and watch?
Thanks

The weatherman says it's Going to get worse this afternoon :(
when are you getting to the space Max?
How about we meet there and then find somewhere to go and race cars :)
Tim
Look at the trees, if the wind is bending branches imagine what it will do with 400g of foam...
A steady breeze is OK, but gusting wind is terrible.
Tim.
They probably just throw that in to mess with you James!
Today looks like a good day to fly! I'm busy all day though :( We ended up flying yesterday though, the wind dropped enough by the afternoon for a few of us to risk our birds, I'm sorry to report none survived the day...
hopefully i can get the morning of next weekend to try again!
Tim.
