Disposing of 5kg of depleted lithium cells

They read 0 volts, I'm pretty sure they are dead. Is there anywhere with a drop off box for them? I know ikea has one but they aren't nearby.

Aldi also do battery recycling. Not sure if they take.lithium.

Many mobile phone outlets have a battery recycling bin... although 5kg worth of batteries might raise eyebrows and/or exceed the bin capacity.

Councils usually have "e-waste" collections. Marrickville's is only occasional: http://www.marrickville.nsw.gov.au/services/waste/household_chemical_cleanout_and_e-waste.html?s=1413642115
