Red dots on all icons in CDMs & PDMs

I am new to data modeling and so this is not a tough question. Have finished generating simple CDMs and then generated LDMs for all eight CDMs. I have two questions:
1. Why do some CDMs appear to have an LDM in the middle of the CDM as well as a copy of the CDM in a seperate LDM model and others not;
2. All the icons of both types of models have a red dot at the bottom left of them. What does it mean?
