charset=big5

Hi,

We have a ASE 12.5 server to store big5 characters in varchar data type
I am curious why setting charset=big5 in connection string is a must to do
such
that any big5 varchar data retrieval will not be corrupted in JConnect.

Does anyone explain this?

I have no big5 character set installed on client machine which runs the
JConnect.
