Bob, I picked up a Schwinn Stingray bike today with a serial number of DN51098.  Can you help me out with this or send me to someone who can help me find the history of this bike.  You should have seen the look it gave me when I told it, it was going to a good home.  You could hear it purrr all the way home

The serial should decode to an April 1977 build, but I would have thought there would be another digit (perhaps production had dropped at this point). Check to see if there is a light, four-digit stamping in the headbadge. It would be the assembly date. The first three digits are the ordinal day of the year and the last digit is the last digit of the year. For example '1227' would be the 122nd day of 1977.
